It all depends on how serious (experienced) a golfer he is. Buying an expensive, popular club for someone who plays only occasionally wouldn't be prudent, they wouldn't possess the skills needed to reap the benefits of the particular club. If, on the other hand he is a golf fanatic, then a good choice would be to look at a specific club, ie; driver, wedge, putter, etc. Drivers are the most popular, Callaway (Big Bertha), Ping & Mizuno and titanium clubs are currently very sought after. Different types of rescue clubs (wedges) are also desireable. It always helps if you can ask his golf buddies what he might need to make the choice easier, but you needn't be too concerned, a good golfer always appreciates an opportunity to improve his game with a new club.
