Babyshambles are growing on me. I never paid much attention to them until my uncle gave me a few CD mixes he had of them, and they sorta grew on me. And just this week, he sent me 'Down in Albion'. I'm listening to it now, and it is not my usual type of music but I do like it.

Pete Doherty is a very good song writer, and I like the guitar in the songs. My dad can't stand them, and says they can't hold a tune for anything tongue.gif But I do like them.

Anyone else enjoy Babyshambles?

I never heard about them sad.gif

Snap! Must be my age laugh.gif

Haha they are quite well known here, due to Pete dating Kate Moss on and off, and cocaine stories. They are one of the few modern bands I like tongue.gif

Bah! I can't stand them! Also I really dislike Pete Doherty.
Mainly because he does not care about his fans (in my opinion),
I mean they got cancelled 3 times in the space of 2 months here in Norwich and one of them was due to him being arrested for having drugs. no.gif
star_child
Haha my uncle is a huge fan and never misses a gig in London, and Pete recognises him now. Once he was on the phone to my grandmother at a gig and handed the phone to Pete, who talked away to her laugh.gif
Mr Ed
Babyshambles are ok, but the Libertines were so much better.
star_child
Don't know much about them actually. My uncle loves them too, so I might like them.
Mr Ed
Eh? You don't know much about the Libertines?

They are finished now, Pete D was in them until he left and formed Baby Shambles, if that is who you were saying you don't know much about.

I am a bit confused.
star_child
I know them, I just don't know many of their songs tongue.gif

I'm not so into modern music anyway.
Mr Ed
Ah ok lol.

Well fair enough, I love the modern and old stuff.
star_child
Can you recommend any Libertines songs my dear?
Mr Ed
Can't Stand Me Now
Up the Bracket
Time for Heroes

Those three are wicked.
star_child
I have an acoustic Pete Doherty CD, Can't Stand Me Now is on it, I do like it.

Thanks man thumbsup.gif
Mr Ed
No problem. grin2.gif
It is always a pleasure to share good music.

Babyshambles and the Libertines = acceptable bands, ridiculous hype. Their songs are okay (they deserve their record deals) but the way the NME positions the Libertines as some sort of paradigm-encapturing milestone for a generation is absolutely vile and just plain wrong. And deduct more points for a huge following of irritating teenage trendies pretending to be "alternative" or "arty".
Mr Ed
It's just music man...

Well, you are entitled to you opinion.

They made it, didn't they? Although I must admit its not hard to make it in todays music industry. I do like Babyshambles, but I don't try to be 'arty' or 'alternative'. I agree with Mr. Ed, it's just music. Music that I like to listen to...

I guess on one level it is, but that's like saying "it's just football" or "it's just your imagination". Horses for courses. The way the media portrays average bands like the Libertines and Babyshambles as being IT for this period of music takes away from genuinely brilliant bands. Would eveyone think them quite so great if they had no media attention and didn't have this bubble of recieved wisdom around them? Just irritates me is all - one of my bete noires.

I know what you mean,I saw Pete last Christmas in a little pub in Camden and he was seemed alright. He did a lil solo of this is for lovers(without wolfman)on his guitar to the crowds of adoring girlies and strange haired men.I quite like Babyshambles, prefer the Libertines but it made me realise that he is a talented geezer.
I think the media has a bad influence on decent music these days and bands get blown outa proportion,or dissed for the sake of it.
I blame the yuppies at fleet street, what the fcuk do they know?

Here here. it's all about making a quick buck unfortunately. I don't doubt that Pete Doherty and Carl Barat can write/hold a tune - like you say it's the whole circus around them that's the problem. Those people have blown their talent and social relevance out of all proportion just to make some money.

Slighly off this topic:

I think people should just listen to music they like and do away with all of these sub classifications, they are ridiculous and it makes the whole thing sound stupid.

How ridiculous... where's the fun in that?
Mr Ed
There is much more fun in that. With classifications you get people talking about mainstream etc, how sad, not listening to music because it is classified as pop rock instead of alternative rock, for example.

I repeat... where's the fun* in that?

*arguing

I agree that a lot a music is uneccesarily/lazily classified. What's the point in having an "alternative rock" genre that includes both Nickelback and Nirvana? Surely the chasm of difference between those bands negates the use of that category. I'm not against musical classification if it helps explain music, but most of the time it's just lazy and useless.
Mr Ed
Actually I will give concede on one thing, over complicated musical classification is useful in showing you what bands not to listen to. tongue.gif

Excuse me, Nirvana weren't alternative... tongue.gif

Yeah the whole music genre thing annoys me too. Listen to what you like, instead of worrying about what heading it fits under.

I had no idea about the hype with Babyshambles as I don't pay much attention to the charts these days, it was actually my 80 year old grandmother who informed me about Petes fame laugh.gif

Well, some may say that Nirvana just ripped off bands like Mudhoney and The Melvins and sold out by getting Butch Vig to produce Nevermind, and that as far as that's concerned they weren't alternative at all. Others would say that, at least in terms of their social and cultural impact, thay were alternative in that they kind of ushered in a new direction, a sort of mini punk revolution. Nowadays they're just thrown into the same genre as Nickelback and Puddle of Mudd by stoopid VJ's.
star_child
Haha I was joking anyway.

I love Nirvana, and I don't really care what music genre they are put into. Same with Babyshambles, I'm liking this Down in Albion album, genre doesn't bother me tongue.gif
Mr Ed
So Star Child, did you download those songs? If so, what do you think of them?
Personally, I think they rock. tongue.gif
star_child
Oooh yes, I do like these ones! grin2.gif
