I'd like to know how to fray denim, so if any of you have any tips they would be much appreciated! thumbsup.gif

I haven't customised any clothing before, so I am a total beginner haha. I'd like to do something with a plain denim mini skirt, any ideas?

Any other tips about customising clothing would also be very welcome!

Thanks guys.

Ah yeah, I wanted a rough-looking frayed edge along the bottom. Not so much a fringe, just looking as if someone had ripped the bottom off tongue.gif Thanks dude.

I'd like to know how to do little rips like this, in the picture.

How to Rip Your Own Jeans

That might help then. original.gif

Back in the days of Bros "cough" when ripped jeans and dm boots with Grolsh bottle tops were cool, I used to just cut a small tear and then literally rip the bottom off my jeans and they would naturally become frayed. As for the slashes, do just that slash them with scissors or cut them and they will given a couple of days look like that. They did for me anyway. thumbsup.gif

Ah, thank you Kratos and Lottie, thats a big help grin2.gif

I suppose I could start wearing jeans to the stables, they'd sure get ripped there!

Sorry, can't help you with fraying jeans.

But I've done some sewing/needle work on pants to add PVC or fur to them to give it a little bit of a different look (my crowning glory is a pair of dark grey pants with PVC flares).

I'll posts pic's next week when I have camera shots of them.

Best way I could think to customise a skirt would be fray the bottom to do one of mine i just cut it and washed it loads before wearing so it looked more 'natural'. Then I cut of the waistband and ripped of one back pockets of. For a worn denim look just rub over it with a pumice stone!! If you do it enough in places it'll rub right through and looks cool.

I used to cut off my jeans and make cutie cut off shorts. I would cut and wash them. Then dry them. Oh and you will have such cutie frayed ends then.

Oh and get some patches or make a skirt like this.

Old jeans, some fabric.

Cut the jeans where they are attached add fabric and you will get a skirt. My friend bought a skirt made like that. And she is going to make one. It couldn't be that hard I guess.

What are pvc flares?

Oh wow, thanks guys, I can't wait to try some of these ideas! D

for 101 - PVC is a synthtic rubber type material - stretchy, shiny. All the good stuff.

Anyhow, I stitched the bottom of my pants with PVC so that they were flared (good ol' 70's/80's - it's coming back devil.gif)

Hope that helps.

I hope this one will be OK.

Ah well, I think I'll check with a Mod anyways thumbsup.gif
Beckys_Mom
I.m sure it is fine LOL if a mod didn't think so by now it would have closed ages ago so it's good it has stayed open and I hope you get more ideas and maybe you might come across more items you need advice on wink2.gif
