w00t.gif hello explorers here we go! Have a look at the photo...there seems to be a wall to the left hand side of the picture and some rather strange Martian rocks...in fact they look to straight to be just rocks...they look like breeze blocks to me...see you later
enjoy Jill

All I see are dunes and rocks. Can you maybe post the picture again with the area highlighted?

Hi, where is this so called wall then?
MattH
I think we're meant to look at the square rock to the bottom left of the picture. One point I'd make is that Mars is a pretty big place, and whilst I know nothing of its geology surely by law of averages there's going to be a few naturally-occurring square-ish rocks around the place?
JMPD1
not to mention that the photo is a negative image, and the colors are reversed..............
Shivel
I'm finding it hard to tell how large the wall actually is. It would be nice to have something to compare it to.
Stellar
Im more interested in that smoke like stuff in the centre of the pic in the distance...
zandore
Just about dead centre of the pix there are some rectangular (very rectangular) stones!

Its a bit hard to see..I ll see if I can get a better one from the NASA site..but the wall thingy is supposed to be to the left hand side....as you look at the piccy.....its quite long...but the rocks in the centre are too elongated and smoothe dont you think?

One of the technitions that looked at the picture image said that natural rocks on mars dont usually look so smoothe and elongated.but I dont know.just thought it would give us all something to chat about thumbsup.gif It was taken near the cydonian region ? isnt that where the so called face is? not to mention the 5 sided pyramid?
MattH
I can't believe no-one's mentioned the freaky space-ship like thing in the bottom right!

Rock formations can be square, forming right angles. Take a look at some rock formations in Tennessee. One of them even resembles a giant ape face!

As for the space ship shaped thingy in the lower right corner...? I don't see anything there, except part of the rover!

Dust devil? Never heard of that before... I find it intriguing how theres two of them, and all seem pretty cylindrical in origine. I wonder what the physics behind this phenomena are.

The problem there is whether the geology of Mars is the same as Earth. I presume it's only a certain type of rock and certain type of geological process that forms rocks that way, so the question is whether that rock type and process exists on Mars.

Oh god there are loads of dust devils on Mars they been in the news, tv, NASA on the web...and New scientist magazine..dust devils are like mini whirlwinds ...at one point NASA was quiet concerned that the Mars Rover was covered in dust but it was ok coz the dust devil cleaned it off.....I ll find you a link now...but in the mean time take a look at this from rense.com also from the nasa site

All you have to do...is type into your search bar...dust devils on Mars or just dust devils and loads of news pops up about them....but I usually go to the NASA site or the jet propulsion lab site its all good fun!

Are you sure? The solar panel on the rover appears to be black in the photo, as it should be. A white and therefore light-reflecting solar panel wouldn't work too well.

I see what you're talking about now. It is an interesting feature, but with scale taken into consideration it might just be a odd looking rock.

Of course, I can't tell what the scale is like in this picture. I know that the rover is the size of a small car, so with that in mind and using the solar panel as a reference, if the rover is on a flat surface, then the 'wall' is quite small; Maybe 2 feet high at most? If the rover is on a hill, plateau, or anything with a high viewpoint, the 'wall' could be considerably larger.

Dust devils are a common occurrence in dry and desert landscapes on Earth and Mars. Dust devils generally form during the day. The hot ground warms the air immediately above its surface. This hot air closest to the surface begins to rise, and starts to spin. This spinning column begins to move across the surface and picks up loose dust (if present).

And the "wall" is a 1,5 ft sand dune.
DieChecker
Yeah, given that the rover appears to be on relatively flat ground that "wall" and the block toward the center can't be very big. I'd chalk it up to weathering. Isn't the rover something like four feet long (1.2m)?

Oh c'mon rolleyes.gif

Theres no way that resembles a wall in the slightest, its just another rock!

I do agree that the rock in the centre is rather smooth edged and blocky.... but that to the left is no possible way a 'wall' lol

Nobody ever gives humanity the credit it deserves.

Yes, we're smart enough to build the pyramids.

Yes, we're smart enough to get the moon.

Yes, we're smart enough to do anything we can imagine, given time.

No, we've never been helped by aliens.
