Being a huge fan of the first Suffering game, I have been wanting to play the sequel for a long time. I went to Blockbust yestersay and they FINALLY had it in. I was excited to play it, and I had good reason to be. This game blows the first one away, and that's saying a lot.
First of all, the gameplay overall is very much the same. The first person rocks though-much improved from the first game-and I play in it 95% of the time. Controls are pretty easy to learn. Not very hard to master, which is a good thing, because this game requires a lot of quick actions and movements.
Secondly, the weapons. There weren't very many in the first game. A revolver, a shotgun, and a Tommy Gun, along with some assorted explosives and melee weapons. Not a huge arsenal. That porblem is over in TTB. There is a fairly huge amount of guns. I haven't come across them all yet, so I'm not exactly sure how many there are. So far, there's a Colt .45 (dual weild), a revolver, sawed-off shotgun (dual weild), pump-action shotgun, M3A1 Grease Gun, Skorpion Machine Pistol (dual weild) and some huge-ass heavy machine gun that I've only come across once so far. I know for a fact that there's more guns, just haven't gotten to all of them yet. For thrown weapons, I've found Molotv Cocktails, Shrap Grenades, and Flash Bangs. Melee weapons, theres a knife, a steel pipe, a baseball bat, a fire axe, and definately more. You can only carry 2 weapons at once in this game, so a lot of the time, unless you have a huge stock of ammo, you'll want to carry a melee weapon just in case.
Now onto the feel of the game, the environment, and the atmosphere. It mostly takes place on the streets of Baltimore and the buildings in it in the main character's old neighborhood. It is very dark and creepy throughout the entire game. The gore factor is VERY VERY high. This has gotta be the single goriest game I've ever played. Some of it is actually a bit shocking. I gotta say, I never though a videogame could be as disturbing as this game is. Not just from the gore, but from most of the story elements and overall scariness that this game offers. The swearing is this game is also very high. The characters throw around the F-word like one says "the" throughout their day. I was actually surprised to hear the C-word at one instance. And no, I don't mean "crap". The things they can get away with in M-rated games is pretty amazing these days. I'm not saying that's bad though. It really adds to the feel of the game.
All in all, this game friggin rocks. More so than that, even. If you want a fantastic survival horror/3rd/1st person shooter, then I highly suggest picking this game up, but NOT before you play and complete the first game, or else you will have no idea what the hell is going on. I give it a 9.5/10
