Now the first thing you need to get done is the realization that you are dreaming while your dreaming.This first step is the most critical step in controlling your dreams for it will pull your conciousness into your subconciousness.Its not easy!Just like the steps to come,untill you get it down pat, you will usually wakeup when you do this.DON'T GIVE UP!

It's good to sleep for at least 8 hours sometimes. That way your body gets all the rest it needs. To help with lucidity, right after you wake up, try to fall back asleep again.

Ya that is how i first learned about it.after years of practice, it still ain't easy.

Another thing to help is to listen to relaxing music and meditate prior to sleeping. It works for me anyway. I had a lucid dream this morning. Practice helps.
