That film is more than partly responsible for my fear and hatred of clowns and dolls. unsure.gif

Metropolis (1927) is a great sci-fi movie if you can find it. It's for older people, though.
Metropolis is responsible for inspiring most of the futuristic city sci-fi movies.

I didn't really like the Fifth Element, it didn't even try to take itself seriously.
It's not bad, but more like a sci-fi parody.

Cube (very gory, but compelling story)

Ghost in the Shell (If you didn't like all the philosophy babble in the second and third Matrix
movies, you may not like this.)

Sphere (really neat story, with a twist ending)

A Clockwork Orange (violent movie about violence, definately not for the younger set)

Back to the Future (more humourous sci-fi, time paradoxes especially part two.)

Ray Harryhausen Films (lots of stop-motion monsters):

Mighty Joe Young: (1930's version) ripoff of King Kong, but still very good)

Earth vs. The Flying Saucers: classic, flying saucers attack Washington D.C.

20 Million Miles to Earth: Monster from a space flight to Venus gets loose in Italy, starts as the size of a cat and grows throughout the film.

Mysterious Island: Has almost nothing to do with the novel it is based on, giant animals (bees, crabs) attack people stranded on an island.

Jason and the Argonauts: Many memorable scenes, including sword fighting skeletons. Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore) plays Hera.

This was before there was computer graphics. And it still looks more realistic than half of Die Another Day. tongue.gif

Clash of the Titans: More greek myths, like Argonauts. Pegasus, Medusa and other
creatures.

Some of these aren't sci-fi, but neat special effects movies nonetheless.

The Goonies is another one

I second that one! It's awesome!! grin2.gif thumbsup.gif

Now, in general, I agree with Byuu about:
- Cube: This one isn't so gory (despite what the beggining shows), but it's got a good a story, and what's sometimes more important, good characters, people you really get to care about.

- Back to the Future: A classic. Need I say more?

I can't remember of any other good movies right now tongue.gif

Maybe not if you watch a lot of horror, but plenty of people die in inventive ways.
I was dissapointed in the "twilight zone" ending. (The kind where wierd stuff happens, but none of it is explained. That just tells me that the writers couldn't think up a good ending.
sad.gif )

Its meant to be like that LOL

But I just want to add I LOVED Jason and the Argonauts its a classic the special effects back then where pretty good and if they where to remake that movie (and not balls it up) it would be worth watching

I didn't see "Batteries Not Included" posted yet. It's a fine film and age-appropriate.
Paranoid Android
I'm a sci-fi nut and can give you a million ideas. What's already been said is a good start. To add one movie to that list: perhaps not age appropriate, and it may not be out on DVD yet, but my new favourite movie of all time (with the possible exception of Star Wars) is Serenity. That movie was amazing.

Regards, PA

Really? Mmm.... given how much you like sci-fi then it's probably worth watching. Now, the problem is, when will it get here? tongue.gif
Anyways, I like sci-fi too, and my fav movie of all time is Blade Runner grin2.gif thumbsup.gif
