OK. I'm not sure if this the right section for this discussion.
Anyway, I'm doing some research for some writing projects, involving magic. I was wondering where I could find a good source of ingredients used in magical rites.

Like herbs and spices, gems, etc...

In particular, I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of using natron salt in rituals????

I recomend the book "The Witchcraft Encyclopedia" to find out this, it has more than 4500 entries on everything you neeed to know.

Natron? Salt.

Nope never heard of that, the use of natural sea salt yes I've heard of it. It is used for cleaning, gets rid of germs and things.

There are a lot of different things you can use, allthough most people steer clear of eye of newt, it doesn't keep well and tounge of frog is even harder to store..

Seriuosly though I think if you wanted to find a list of herbs and such the best place to look is your local library, they have lots of books on the uses of herbs, culinary, healing and magical.

It would take a lot more than one thread to list everything that might work for you. And then of course there are many that work for you that won't work for me. That is why most people would recommend keeping track of your rituals and there effects.

It isn't something you should just pick up over night, it really does require people put a lot of enquiry into it. Websites are usefull, but books are much better.

I'm more then happy to help you out if you like(witch herself) just send me a pm and I can provide you with some very good links and books, as well as what I have used in my own rituals.
I haven't heard of natro salt, I use sea salt for cleansing, as well as other things.

Thanks, guys. I'm still doing my Googling, and have found some interesting stuff.

If you check out my 'Covenant of Thorns' thread, you can better understand what I'm doing.

Ok here comes my odd and embarassing confession.
ONE TIME, just once I have no idea what THE HECK I
was thinking, but I burned a strad of my own hair and
a photo of a guy I liked over a candle and said the
dumbest childhood rant over and over again to the effect
of "If he is mine then bring him to me, if it is not ment to be
then set him free" (how lame and I).

Funny thing, and I really do not believe it had a thing to do
with that night, he and I ended up togther for 6 years and
had a child. What is funny is before that night, we hardly
knew eachother and we we both with other people.

do do do do do do do do (twilight zone music) lol

Most of the crap they say you need, you really don't. What I suggest are statues, altars, etc of various deities (even pictures should work, but I find a 3-D object easier to work with).

Most of the items are mostly symbolic, you can easily interchange betwen them, etc. . . use common day objects to achieve your ends.

There's no point spending vast amounts of money on stuff you don't need.

Natron Salt was used by the ancient egyptians for mummification. It's actually a mixture of baking soda and basic salt (sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride). The natural combination of both worked extremely well for drawing the moisture out of the decadent. I wouldn't suggest trying to use it for any rituals though since it is not in pure form. Sea Salt is by far the best salt to use for rituals. It might not be the purest form of salt there is but it comes directly from mother earth without the hand of mankind altering its properties.

1) What "path" or "tradition" do you want to concentrate on? Voudon? Wicca? Christian? Obiah? (K)(Q)ab(b)al(l)a(h)? Hopi? Bureaucracy? - there's as many of them out there as you'll find there are sects of mainstream religions.

2) You don't need anything to do/practice/pretend/screw up magic(k). Other than your own will (or lack of it), that is.

I'll dispense with the brackets next time and just use my own spellings. And if that doesn't tell you how messed up things are - that people can't even agree on the SPELLING of what they're doing, then good luck trying to talk conspiracy theory wink2.gif
