I have seen a photo of this really strange creature called Djinn but it turned out that the photo is not real (Surprise!!!!).
Anyway, here is the photo but I am wondering if anyone knows anything about Djinn.

Djinn are "spirits" stemming from mostly Arabic cultures. "Genies", as in Aladdin and the Lamp and I Dream of Jeanie.

Some are good, some are bad, some are neutral - they are also usually associated with elements, such as fire, etc.

And "Satan" was thought to be a jinn in some cultures, not a demon or angel.

On the subject of djinn, ethreal beings etc jonathan stroud has actually researched alot on this subject and he seems to have a fair idea of what they are.

Shapeshifting could be like how its possible for lizards and squid to change their colour, i mean if you where hiding in a flock of sheep, you would be a sheep right.

Maybe its just the fact that not many people control them and because they dont have much to do, theres not much of recent information on them. I mean theres meant to be something to do with danger/bad luck etc with them maybe theyre responsible for office fires.

I just read thew Bartimaeus Trilogy and wow I had no idea! This is all very fasinating. Actually, I have done some of the research myself. A lot of this IS taken from Jonathan Stroud's "The Bartimaeus Trilogy". The Other Place, specifically, is a Jonathan Stroud theme. The proper name to use would have been "Hell" or whatever because the legends of the Djinn are ancient and the other place that Stroud refers to is the land that Djinn live in. There's a lot you can find on wikipedia and on other various sites -- just don't try and come off as if you have this wealth of knowledge. I personally found it offensive that you were acting as if you worked really hard to find all this info and when people asked where you got it, you said, "research" and "reading". The truth of the matter is you read a fictional novel.

In all honesty, the "Stiples" and "Shriveling Fire" are both Jonathan Stroud ideas. "The Shriveling Fire" would be the fires of Hell and it is administered by the Devil since he is the one who is supposed to be able to control it.

I'm not completely sure why I'm posting this. I just was very offended from the way it was portrayed that you had this great knowledge on the subject when, instead, everything you said could be found in the Trilogy. I might have been less offended had you actually done some research and found where Stroud mixed myth, legend, and his own imagination and had you originally told everyone where you got it from.

Again, this is not a flame, but merely a warning to those reading this thread. Hey - I loved the Trilogy myself which was probably why I hated that, originally, Stroud was given no credit for the information that a certain someone was using at the beginning... in fact, that someone virtually refused to give up the information until he was "outed" by someone else. I'm not sure why they were repremanded anyway. It wasn't a true flame. If anything, it was the same as what I'm doing -- warning you of plagarism.... After all, I DO believe the forum rules state quite clearly “You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this bulletin board.”

i was reading the 3 bartimaeus book and it said bartimaeus was trapped in a bottle and when someone opened it, he ame out looking like a god, and he was gonna give the guy somethig for savig himbut he dropped dead from a heart attack from the apperance
