Have you ever decided to join a religion to make your life more exciting or because the things that they believe in seem right. Do you think you have to be the religion your parents are? I am looking for a right relgion for me, but I cant find one!

I would say that choosing a religion is something that is very hard for anyone to do. I personally don't have a religion exactly I have faith and beliefs instead. Also I would say that it almost chose me not the other way around. i hit a point after finding out about many different religions and beliefs that one just sort of stuck it made sense and it became something that felt right. Perhaps you need more information and knowledge about different beliefs and also about yourself and your life and at some point something should just find you............

Personally no...I believe if I can't practice the one I was brought up in, I wouldn't share much intrest in any other one, so instead I keep my views on God to myself and pray to him in my own time and in my own way.

Stick around, you may find your answers here and if not at least you may get some questions answered. The worst that could happen is that you will become addicted like the rest of us.

I guess it depends what your definition of "religion" is. Today's society has cheapened the term to organized religious institutions. So if I say I'm religious, it means I attend *insert organization name*, which is a load of crap to me. You don't need to join any such group. Nor should this organization be "religion".
But religion in the broader context of what you believe, that's something that you just gotta work out on your own. We can all give you opinions if you ask for them, but in the end it's up to you to decide what you believe.
Then, and just to contradict myself slightly, if you find an organization that holds the same or similar views, then perhaps it would be good to join that group.
Just my thoughts on it.

Xylaphonic, I have a question for you: Why do you think you need to find an organisation to give you the answers? I beleive that we can find the answers for ourselves.

So true

And PA she quoted you becase you mentioned joining a group
Personally I think you don't need to join a group to connect with God, in gods eyes we all belong

That's what I thought. WHat i said though was "If you find a group that holds similar views, why not join it". I did not say "Find a group that tells you your views".
Look at it this way. There are sports clubs, chess clubs, Kung Fu clubs, yachting clubs, sci-fi clubs..... you name it, there's a club for it. People go to these clubs because they hold similar interests. Is not a church similar?

Don't join a religion just cuz "Everybody's in it!", cuz if you're not quite as enthusiastic in it chances are you're not going to be very happy in the end. Join one that makes you feel comfortable, and you'll be a lot happier that was

Consider this:
You don't need to follow any religion to believe and follow God's word. God's word is the bible, not a religion. If you want, follow it on your own!

zero, and why not follow judaism, islam, buddhism, taoism, mytraism, confusism, hinduism, or others?
why follow? make your own way, read them all, read philosophy, read anything that interests you. Don't buy the pitch snake-oil salesmen.

I agree with both you two. Zero you are right you don't need to have a religion to follow His Way, and hyperactive (Nice muscles!) is correct you should study each religion's philosophies before choosing. You've got a big life ahead of you, so slow down get out of the rush take some time to look at everything before you buy the merchandise.

Some very good points made, and I agree with what some of the others are saying. Take your time and you'll find what you are looking for, follow your heart.

I have never been keen on clubs not sinse I was a kid, and when I saw my mom join the christian club & church and how she was totally brainwashed (you don't ant to know trust me) that was enough to put me off church groups, I strongly believe that you don't need to belong to some church group to be in touch with God, and if you are a private person, you would rather go at your own pace. Besides at work, with friends or even on line you find someone that shares the same intrest as you, to me thats enough there is no need to go out of your way to join a club.
IMO the thread starter - Xylaphonic is on the search for a new religion and I think it might have something to do with the fact he has prayed to god and has found no answers so he probably feels if he belonged to some group that should do the trick.
I don't belong to any group/club, I am supposed to be a catholic but I don't bother with church ect and I pray to God in my own way and in my own good time and yes I get a lot of my prayers answered, so you see joining a group won't make a blind bit of difference.
But that is just my opinion

I agree - you do not need to be part of a church to feel God. I have never claimed you did. I can understand not wanting to be part of a club, I was just using that as an example. I just thought, hey, if you believe what they believe (as opposed to them telling you what to believe), then why not I attend, I say.
But going back to the OP, just look around, keep thinking about your beliefs. Keep questioning. Keep investigating. It's the only way we learn. It's the only way we grow.

AHA but I am not a christian...well not really..and besides there are more than christians here, which makes this whole board intresting

true there are many points of view other then christian here. And there is also a lot of people who are going to tell you that they have the one right or true path. I don't think there is one path I personally believe it is what is in you and being true to yourself and your own heart that makes it the right way. The hard part I would say is finding what feels right, after that it's just continuing to learn and grow with that knowledge
Don't they have Jewish synagoges? And Spiritualist churches- that do the new age type thing.
Many churches.
Don't get all huffy on Christian churches. They are just more common.
You could also be Mormon, JW, Buddist, many many more.

I do not believe anywhere I mentioned Christianity. Your path is your own to do with as you wish. I suppose I could have used words like Temple, or Synagogue, or Coven instead of church, but I did not. I said whatever path suits you, not whatever Christian road you choose to take. And I meant that.
