There is an international conference of linguists and dead-language translators at the University of Jerusalem this month and on the agenda is the old topic of whether or not the Q Gospel really existed.
The Q Gospel is believed by some to have been an earlier writing dealing with the sayings of Jesus and that it was obviously used by Matthew and Mark because of the similarities in their writings. In some instances Matthew and Mark speak of the same event but use slightly different references or phraseology. This had led some to believe that an earlier gospel existed.
The Vatican denies an existence of the Q Gospel even though rumors flowed in the 1970s that it was held in a secret chamber of the Vatican archives. The fact is that there is a secret chamber of the archives and can be found at "D-4" of the typical Vatican map sold to tourists.
I have found in my time at UM that the debates and discussions are often more interesting and productive than conferences. For that I congratulate you all but I would like to see your views about the mysterious Q Gospel.
