Ok, so I was looking at the image gallery, and noticed that many of the deformed animals are reptiles or amphibians. This peaked my interest, and I did a google search for deformed animals. A majority are frogs, closely followed by other amphibians, and then reptiles. So I was wondering, are amphibians and reptiles more suseptable to being born deformed? Why do you think that is?

My personal theory is polluted water affecting amphibians and corrupting their genes, but I got zip on a google. And then how would that explain the reptiles?

Thanks!
Nadal
I think it's because they reproduce so many at a time there's a higher chance of one being mutated.

Yes, and also amphibians and reptiles (generally) lay eggs, so those eggs are susceptible to anomalies in the water or ground surrounding them. This happens less with birds because most birds have their nests elevated or hidden, and out of water. original.gif

That is what it is. Water pollution. Certain reptiles and amphibians are going extinct in the US because of the mutations. There are lakes here in New Jersey that were full of frogs when I was a kid and now you won't see one.

well in the case of amphibians, mostly frogs its because their skin is a semipermeable membrane, and toxins and pollutions in the water can pass into their bodies through their skin, they are called an indicator species because their so sensitive to their surroundings, reptiles im gonna guess most of the ones you saw were snakes and turtles, and theirs probably so many pictures because they are breed for pets, and some places breed them by the thousands, so the chances of getting a mutation is higher, pluss the poor conditions dont help.

Thats what I am thinking, it's the same with humans.
