Hi everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about Buddhism? Ive recently started studying it at college in religious studies, but i would like to know more. So i was wondering if anyone knew anything about it, or if anyone here is buddhist or follows their practices?

Ive become very interested in it recently after having a faith breakdown a few weeks ago, i was depressed and not very mentally stable, but things have changed since ive been learning about Buddhism, it just feels right somehow. But i would love to know more about the religion, if anyone knows anything about it? Thankyou original.gif

Buddhism is simply a man-made philosophy of life - not a way of faith. Buddhism teaches that a person receives rewards for his good deeds and punishment for his bad deeds.

I would also like to hear input from other members regarding Buddhism. I've read a couple books about Buddhism and it fascinated me, but never had the chance to continue further study.

Buddhists don't worship a god (or any gods). There may be the misconception that Buddhist worship Buddha. For the most part the followers of the religion try to achieve spiritual enlightenment, and an end to the cycle of reincarnation. Nirvana is often the goal.

Thanks guys for your insights! In my opinion, Buddhism makes a lot more sense to me, than other world religions that i know of. Especially as it does not condemn other religions and their beliefs, which is what i have found in other faiths! Equality is something i strongly believe in.

Whoa like all other religions some sect of buddhism actually want the world to convert to buddhism. Yeah its kind of hard to imagine a peaceful Tibetan Buddhist wants to control the world, but they do!

As for the original philosophy of Buddhism, Siddhartha did respect other peoples culture and religion but he did stress that he wants everybody to follow his philosophy. He like many other enlighten men/women or prophets they took their philosophy as truth and wanted everybody to follow it. And the philosophy is very flexible it can be adopted easily.

This is why their are some many sects of Buddhism people were either forced or genuinely accepted the philosophy to their culture or religion.
