I saw a doco of this chimp named oliver that was captured in wild in africa.

He walked upright, had a different scent, smaller skull, ears pointed etc. When he was interacting with other chimps they rejected him because he prefered to walk upright, shoulders back. Normal chimps can walk upright when trying but because of thier hips, their grassilius and quadracept muscles get very tired and feel comfurtable on all fours.

Long story short.... THis chimp was thought to be a human-chimp hybrid a humanzee(gross i know)

but later DNA test's found that he was completely chimp.

Some scientist think he is sub-species of chimpanzee others say he's a anomoly or a dawn of a new chimp species?

Shame no other chimps like him have been found so i think they've probably been wiped out. sad.gif

What a shame. He is apparently still alive and still preferes to walk upright, shoulders back.

Anyone got anymore info?

Scientists plan further tests to search for a genetic explanation of Oliver's unusual appearance and behavior. Other upright-walking chimps have appeared elsewhere, suggesting that Oliver might be part of a new species.

I do hope that this is the case... Something else that's interesting is the new spicies of apes discovered in Congo. They look like chimps, but are bigger like a gorilla... Have u heard of that? i guess u have rolleyes.gif

Lion Killers. The "Great Apes" of Tarzan fame. They pulled the information about them off the National Geographic site. I think because the researcher who studies them wants to keep it hush. Apparently he busted some poachers that came from the US and the UK just to shoot them. sad.gif

Ahhhh, I remeber this....

Oliver the Humanzee...ring a bell? Scientists think Oliver was the product of a cruel act played on a pet chimpanzee in a village in Africa. Many locals keep Chimps as pets. Oliver also ried to mate with he rowner too...that does not happen...

Try google for Humanzee

They said he was a Humanzee But he is not. He's a new breed of chimp.

No, they said he is a genetic match to a normal chimp.

no, he isn't identical, he only has the same number of chromosomes as a normal chimp, but two of Oliver's chromosomes are different from a normal chimpanzee, from what I have heard, Oliver has been designated a sub-specie, most likely he has many counterparts in west Africa

Oliver the Mystery Ape is a chimp, though a bit abnormal. Genetically, he has been proven to be a chimp, but possibly a mutant or some kind of subspecies.
His upright posture COULD be the result of years of training and practice, However, he is not bowlegged like other chimps. His odd natural odor lends creedence to the idea that he is not a 'normal' chimp.
I profiled him at my own site.

There is no "missing link."

This is a common misconception. It was once believed that modern humans evolved in a direct and unbroken line from ape to us. There we gaps in this line "hence the missing link," but it is now understood that the evolution of mankind is not a direct line. There are many species of ape type creatues and proto-human, and more are being discovered all the time.
