Space Cadets hoax out of this world


A new reality TV show is aiming to pull off the biggest hoax in TV history - by persuading a group of Britons that they have been blasted into space







Nine people will be told they are set to visit the final frontier as space tourists and that in preparation they will undergo intensive training in Russia courtesy of the Space Tourism Agency of Russia, but in reality the groups will be "trained" for space in a disused airbase in a secret location in the UK.


Unbeknown to them, their shuttle will be a Hollywood creation, made originally for the film Space Cowboys.

A giant custom-built screen positioned just outside the shuttle will, it is hoped, provide the illusion of a view of Earth from space including a hurricane over Mexico and a glimpse of the UK on one day when cloud cover parts.

The launch sound has been created by a Hollywood sound specialist while the shuttle will tip and rock in the process.

Channel 4 admits that the joke could be on them if the participants, who are currently being selected from a group holed up in a secret location with no contact with the outside world, cotton on to the stunt.

Three actors have been placed in the group and will be able to report back on whether there are any suspicions.

they have also been told that because they are not far enough in space they will not experience weight lessness???? how the hell did they get them to believe that ????

Man these guys are gonna take some stick when they get out ....at the moment they think they're orbiting Earth just inside the atmosphere so they're not expecting zero G
They fell for it hook line and sinker....even holding hands and congratulating each other on their achievments
It should have been blown right from the off when the simulation timing went off between the sounds and the movements.....they werent moving but yet the tower was telling them to taxi left etc.....
But i spose they wanted it so much they discounted it
Imagine though they are convinced that they are the first reality TV contestants to go to space and expect to be heroes when they get back .....
Instead they'll have people pointing and larfing at them for the rest of their lives

Those poor people,there gonna be so gutted when they realise its all a prank.They seemed so exited and quite moved by the whole experiance.
Cant wait for tonights episode,I hope theyve found that Moth that interfered with the earth projection.

They believe they wont experience weightlessness because they have told them that they wont actually be breaking through the atmosphere but will be just skirting on the limit ...
They ran a lot of psycological tests on the wannabbee contestants and the more gullible you were the more likey you were to be picked
For example, they had a glass jar with 60 plastic eyeballs in it...the contestants had to write down how many they thought were there....so most guessed around 40/50/60...then they would raise the flipchart and they had sneakily changed others guesses to show say 600 / 700 ...and even though it would be impossible to get so many into a small jar some of them STILL changed their guesses to say 300 - 400...so in other words if you have a sheep mentality and are open to suggestion....you're in

I have been reading the build up to this show for a while now, and I think it is a waste of money and a case of reality TV gone to far. So I have refused to watch this rubbish. I hope CH4 have a turkey on their hands here, and get stuffed in the ratings.

Im quite sure it is. Thats why its funny hearing all these people talking about how *those* people are going to be mad/sad when *they* find out. 2 of the people who werent supposed to be actors were spotted on a TV commercial from a few years back, or are registered to some actors and performers website. I doubt the show is what they say it is... but it could still be the biggest prank...

I have been watching this show and I can't believe how they where stupid enough not to notice the loss of gravity if they believe they are in space and not one person noticed the lenth of time it took for them to travel into space LOL I can't wait to see tonights show, I laughed when the presenter had said there was a moth looses near the projecter so if the Space Cadets where to look out and believe they can see the earth from a distance the moth would totally blow the whole thing

What they should have done, was tell them they were gonna be in a spaceship take-off simulation...but actually leave earth!!! That would have made for good TV. Even if a few lawsuits would probably be in order...

I reckon they are all actors and the jokes on the public. The show is way too unethical to be real. They would be publically humiliated on live tv! It could cause psychological harm to the contestants. Yet it seems a bit pointless, they tell us its all a joke....and then thats it. Hmm...

Thats the whole point of the show

Channel 4 is blasting a group of adventurers, ordinary members of the public, off into space to spend five days orbiting the earth. It's thrilling, it's exciting, and it's totally bogus.

In fact, the cadets will be on a disused military base in Suffolk.

Our group of thrill seekers will experience two weeks of intensive astronaut training believing they are in Star City, near Moscow, and labouring under the illusion that they are part of a real space mission.

After all, who would go to the trouble of dressing Suffolk, up as Russia, and faking a space launch?

To fuel the illusion, the base has been painstakingly decked out in Russian products, down to the very last plug socket.

Their physical training is under the supervision of a genuine former KGB agent.

Hollywood visual effects specialists, Wonderworks, whose credits include The Day After Tomorrow and Apollo 13, have created the space shuttle itself from a NASA blueprint.

Sound effects have been created to simulate the incredible noise generated by blasting off from the earth. Hydraulics and 'air biscuits' will pull, jolt, and vibrate the craft around for authenticity.

When the cadets look out of the cockpit window, they'll see a distant earth, thanks to meticulous visual effects.

Who wouldn't believe?

The cadets that didn't get to go into the shuttle (sorry hoax shuttle) where finally told that it was all a hoax and they freaked out, then they where invited on to the studio and where awarded £5000 each for taking part...hmmm I wonder how much dosh the space cadets will get when they find out they where not really aboard a space shuttle? Can't wait to see their reactions when they find out that have been had

Well,I haven't seen any of it yet,but from what Iv heard so far if this is real I don't think that any of them should be allowed to breed.

Shame you didn't get to see it, it's really worth watching, and they did take it in good humour in the end ......anyone would once they saw they got £5000 for taking part!!

The base appears to be the one near Rendlesham Forest. Bentwaters, I think is the name.

I recognized it by the trees. After watching the Rendlesham incident and having been past there-the tree and the landscape are easily recognizable.

Woodbridge/Bentwaters base.

Also, the radiators gave it a way. They don't give me the impression of a Russian air base.

I've never really seen this show, is it worth a watch, or is it just another stupid show on tv?

No it was a reality tv show with a difference....too fool people to believe they where actually going into space, it was a good set up ...but they got £25grand for taking part, although when they found out they where fooled the whole time, they did look a lil pissed off!!

That's cos going into space is a proceless thing to most folk.

Yea I know it is, but gee if I was one of the ones that took part in the whole con, and got £25grand for it, I gues I'd be a lil pissed off but then think of the £25Grand and be glad that I did in the end
