About a week ago I was traveling through the Cleveland area on my way home from work and spotted something that made me look twice.
There was only one marked police car, the rest of the vehicles (a early 90's camaro/firebird,
a late model ranger, and several other unmarked vehicles) the only lights the unmarked vehicles had were thin LED lightbars mounted on the roofs. Most of the personel on site were plaincloths.
Any body else seen any thing like this before?
P.S. Any body else seen MARKED homeland security chevy impallas. (White w/blue lettering)
Saw one recently, kinda suprised me, being marked.

I see unmarked police vehicles at least 3 or 4 times a week. I don't get what's supposed to be odd about that. They're unmarked because they're looking for crooks without drawing attention to themselves. Hardly a conspiracy.

In my community, Law Enforcement is not allowed to use unmarked cars. We actually want to be seen! If you're driving down the road and see a cop car, you'll slow down. If you see cop cars in the neighborhood all the time, you'll think twice about breaking into those houses. On the other hand, maybe sneaking up on certain types of crimes would work better. Personally though, I'm no sneak.

Unmarked cars are easy to spot. Aside from the plates, the antennas, and usually a spotlight on the driver's side rear view mirror.

Guess I should have said there were no antennas, spotlights or "cop tags" on any of the unmarked vehicles. I had plenty of time to look beings that traffic was at a crawl. I thought it was kinda unusual, being the 2 marked police cars were only directing traffic. Guess I am just being paranod.
Any body here in the U.S. see any thing like this? I drive all over the metro Cleveland area
(100 to 200) miles a day, I have never seen anything like this.

We have lots of unmarked squad cars where I live. Lot's of pigs who think their somebody special with there shinny little badge. I know police are nessesary and do more good then harm, but I sure don't feel safe when I see a cop. Does anyone honestly feel safe and secure driving down the street with a cop car in your rearview mirror? Our public servants are slowly being militarized and calling themselves officials. And why the hell is it a crime to resist arrest? That is bull$H!+
Many people say that government is necessary because some men cannot be trusted to look after themselves, but anarchists say that government is harmful because no men can be trusted to look after anyone else. ~Nicolas Walter, About Anarchism

"And why the hell is it a crime to resist arrest? That is bull$H!+ "
It is another charge one can recieve if they don't comply with the officers orders. The hope is that it will discourage suspects from resisting.
Most people figure that they are in enough trouble, why make it any worse.
Law Enforcement in the U.S. is slowly becoming militerized because of the types of crimes that are being committed. There are more violent crimes and criminals now than before. Ask someone at the local jail how many assaults on the staff they have in an average month. Society is becoming "meaner" all the time. If you ever saw the shootout in L.A., you'll remember that the bank robbers were using fully automatic AK-47's. The police officers initially had only thier side arms.

No, I saw a regular car surrounded on both sides of I77 (The stopped vehicle was against the center divider wall north bound) the afore mentioned unmarked cars with L.E.D. light bars on both north and south bound lanes, the cop cars were directing traffic. That clear things up?

Not that surprising. They do that to catch speeders in the act. =P

In my area, we have unmarked cars for speed traps and drug busts. The light is on the dashboard of the car.
Another possible explanation for this:
do you have any volunteer fire/emergency personnel in that area?
When the local emergency people are volunteers and have to drive themselves to wherever the emergency is, they usually have lights on the tops of their cars to let traffic know their purpose.

sounds more like a drug bust. here in new hampshire its common to see the drug division driving cars like the ones you described.

The unmarked cars that cruise on the highway I regularly travel look exactly like cop cars, except that they are painted weird colors -- one is purple and one is pale mint green. They stick out even more than the regular ones.
I once saw a fully uniformed cop pull someone over in a rust-bucket old T-Bird with the bumper held on with loops of barbed wire. It was hilarious and I suddenly had an urge to give a donation to the local PBA.

It's not like that at all. To me, it sounded like he saw a bunch of unmarked cop cars and thought it was a big deal. I didn't mean to sound like an ass, but unmarked cop cars are a natural occurrance, or so I thought.
