Shenmue/shenmue2 are also classiscs in my book, shame they keep starting and canceling shenmue 3.
ohhhhh, I forgot all about Shenmue, I loved that game when it first came out. That is a rare masterpiece. I loved the fights, and all the moves you could do, the story, everything about it! It sucks we will never get to fight Lan Di.

I voted for super mario bros. but where was the Metal Gear Series. That should definitely be an option
I could only fit so many on there, and those are the ones I thought of at the time, beleive me id probably have all the games on there if I could.

I didn't insult hendrix, i simply pointed out that if you can't use your eyes on a website, it's quite evident where your impression of the games came from. The impression you have given me, is that you're not worth my time.

What about some more choices, like the Fallout series or Diablo or even the Legacy of Kain series? Unreal Tournament? Mechwarrior? Splinter Cell? Warcraft?
Who came up with this list anyhow?

Overall: Final Fantasy IX Most Influential: Final Fantasy VII
Best Survival Horror:
Overall: Resident Evil 4 Most Influential: Resident Evil (it got the genre going)
Best Simulation Racing:
Overall: Gran Turismo 4(Forza is very close) Most Influential: Gran Turismo
Best Flying Shooter:
Overall: Ikaruga Most Influential: Space Invaders
Feel free to add more.

I worked on the Fallout series when I was at Interplay; it has been my favorite game for years and years. Even after having played through it dozends of times I still load it up and play through it on occasion.
Tim Cain was a great guy to work for, and he was really brilliant. It is sad to see that he could never get the funding to do an RPG as big as he really wanted to...after Troika went under I don't know where he went...
I wish he could have gotten a hold of Fallout 3, he could have done a great job...

Yeah I was sad when I heard that he'd wanted to work on it with his new company and the sellers said no and handed the rights to someone else. But yeah, I have to agree that Fallout and Fallout 2 can just be played through hundreds of times, and then on the 101st time you'd find something new. A classic.
And no harm done QuantumE, you had good choices in there too. LOL

We need an end-all-giant-mecca game thread for something like this.

Did anyone play the ninja turtles game on the Super Nintendo? I loved the part when your fighting on the bridge and that giant robot thing with the brain in him is zapping you with its eye lasers. Fun times.

It's name is Kang! Not giant robot thing with the brain. WHere is the culture today?

Anywho, I've just thought of a couple more that deserve to be in the list (I know QuantumE, I know - it's all that would fit in the list, and they came to mind).....
Starcraft pops to mind (but that's been said)
Monkey Island series was and is classic.
Has the Elder Scroll's series been said yet? I can't recall. Oh well, I'm saying it now.

Warcraft all the way! World of Warcraft tops it all off in the series. Best game ever. I mean the graphics isn't top of the line, but the gameplay and control is better than any MMORPG that i've seen. And the fact that blizzard is always upgrading, editing, and adding new content every month is fantastic.
The battlegrounds is great for head on battles between people. The best battleground would be Alterac Valley, pitting horde against alliance to control graveyards and towers, and also being able to change the outcome of a battle by gathering resources to upgrade each sides gaurds, or summoning their god, and special reinforcements like commandos or their "cavalry".
Not only can you join battlegrounds but being able to quest and level with people and make a lot of friends is great. I'm not surprised World of Warcraft is the number one MMORPG!

Final Fantasy series, no contest.
EDIT: Well, let me take that back. Legend of Zelda is one of my favorite also.
So it's FF, because the stories are also and draw you in. The combat is always unique. The characters are always interesting. Always have good graphics.... Just an all around awsome series of games. My 2 favorites are FF7 and 8[I know, alot of people are like "Wtf?!"]

You know, I keep on saying I should get a Final Fantasy game, but I never get around to it

I really only do Xbox gaming at the moment. My PC is getting pretty archaic. Probably won't run most of the games today.

FF8 isn't bad, but it felt like it just needed something more to me. The weapons upgrade system seemed like an unessecary chore to me, chocobos didn't really do anything, and the only sidequest was the card battles.
I did like the story and the videos are still great.

Resident Evil may go down in history as the greatgrandfather of interactive movies.
It had a lot in common with the soap Dark Shadows.
I think RPGs have a great deal of potential for all ages and sexes in a way that shooters do not.
They are missing a huge market so far with aging baby boomers who have trouble working controllers. They should place easy to use RPG stories and machines in the hands of prominent senior group officials, like those of AARP, to promote their use.
They could do this also with soap opera fan club presidents, if they made soap style RPGs for all those potential repeat buyers who are addicted to soaps.
The young male shooter market is well tapped into already while the rest of the market is largely ignored.
As Nintendo is finding out, its all about making the software to use the people really want and not hyping what the makers want to thrown out to the public.

I praize that day back in 1997 when i first played Resident Evil !!! That is the game that changed my life....it is probably best "action survive the horror game".That atmosphere, that playability, ablosutely awesome. Also personally think that it was greatest zombie like game ever !!!!
I will also like to point out that my most favourite game ever is "Silent hill" which is also a series and i didn't see it here to vote for. I think thats the best "survive the horror game" EVER ! Fantastic atmosphere, fantastic environment, incredibly good story......if any of you didn't play Silent Hill..you should do it right now !!!
