Hands down, Which video game do you beleive to be the BEST video game you've ever played? The game that you felt was revolutionary and awe inspiring. The game that changed the way you felt about gaming in general. The game you had the best time of your life playing. The game that you look back on a think of the good old days. Find a game thats not in the poll that deserves recognition post it and tell why you think it's the BEST game of all time.
Super Pancake
Not to be a downer but you should of added other, and seriously no megaman, sonic, street fighter, mortal kombat?

Well even though this game is not that great but everybody played Tetris whether you are hardcore, casual, or a non-gamer you played or at least know what it is. Its fun and easy.

For me my jaw dropped when I played Ikaruga on the Gamecube its fast, fun, and hypnotic. Plus its a throwback to the old school shooters that were insanely hard, must have reflexes of god to play type games.

Out of the list I will put on my rose tinted glasses and go with Zelda a real adventure game.
Hendrix
final fantasy every one is like a huge adventure and story is always good so my vote goes to final fantasy hands down yes.gif
Shakezulah
Resident Evil. Hands down...next to the Jak series of course.
QuantumE
I couldnt fit anymore in there, and those were the ones that came to mind at the time. Keep adding more, cuz I cant think of all the really great games without forgetting obvious ones. Mortal combat and street fighter deff good games, Sonic, And Crash Bandicoot as well.
Unforgiven
Half Life 2, was the most revolutionary game when it was first released.
GTA: San Andreas / NFS: Most Wanted are the best original.gif
BurnSide
Edited topic title so it makes sense.

Resident Evil.
Nadal
Medal of Honour set way for a WHOLE series of World War 1 and II games. I think it's the mosti inspiring. Goldeneye opened up a lot for First Person shooters and adventurs. Resident evil for Horror and survival. Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy opened it up for the RPG's.
Hendrix
what is it with resident evil games ??
you basically just go along and kill things theres no story
whats the big deal ?
jpalz
And what is it with Mario games?
You basically just jump the whole time, get some coins and step on some Koopas and there's no story.
What's the big deal?

tongue.gif
Don't worry Hendrix, nothing personal wink2.gif
Tenteijfs

resident evil however is like hundreds of other shooter games your stuck in a level you go through kill things then the next level very repetitive
which is fine sure whatever you like

If you played it long enough there is a story.

Poor choices to pick from.

its hard to play it long enough after you do the first level your on the second wich is basically the same as the first at which point i just go ah to hell with it

and you do get to know the story at the start and you can read it in the booklet
and its not very complex mostly like a virus breaks out then you gotta go kill zombies
jpalz
Hendrix, I don't know either. However, RE4 is a great game.
As for my fav, I say Mario... without it I wouldn't be here thumbsup.gif. Runner-ups include: Prince of Persia, The Monkey Island series, Grim Fandango, Silent Hill series, Jak series, yaddayaddayadda tongue.gif
thebarman
Pfft. Goldeneye, hands down no questions asked best game ever.

Perfect gameplay, perfect difficulty curve, instinctive controls, follows plotline close but not too close, uses blueprints from the game to design its levels and arguably the best multiplayer game of its time.

No Story

The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of time is undisputidly the best game ever made not even the newer Zelder games have quite achieved what that did but they are still brilliant.
As for series of games apart from Zelda,Residen't evil and Silent hill.As for the coments on the RE games, you obviously haven't played them much and who said to be great a game needs a really deep story.
BurnSide
Hendrix i wouldn't really count yours as an opinion since you obviously know absolutely nothing about the Resident Evil series. For a start, there's no 'levels' so how does one go through 'levels' in it? The story for all the games is extremely delicate and complex and that's what makes the whole Resident Evil experience so unique. It's also a realistic brand of horror gameplay that has for 10 years now shaped the way games are created, played and enjoyed. It's not even a shooter. rolleyes.gif
Of course, you might be right, but then that wouldn't make much sense considering the world has just voted Resident Evil 4, in at least 6 different official awards polls including Spike TV, Tech TV, Gamespy and Game Informer, the Best Game of the Year and Best Game Overall alongside Best graphics and Best Cinematics. But no, it's just dumb and repetitive with no story. tongue.gif

Do yourself a favour and only comment on what you know.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Infact, I probably couldn't have even said it that well. tongue.gif

Seriously Hendrix, why don't you actually try playing a RE game instead of going by what you think you know after viewing maybe 5 or 6 screenshots.
AztecInca
From the list I personally would have to say the Zelda series followed closely by Final fantasy and Goldeneye!
Neo2005
Resident Evil of course.
But closely followed by Goldeneye, which BTW is the best N64 game ever made.
BurnSide
Agreed. One of the best of all time.
Oh lord, the night and days endlessly spent playing that bloody game. I think i missed half of 7th grade and half of 8th.
Neo2005
It was an amazing game. and still is.
It is probably top three and best FPS of all time as well.
Shakezulah
Goldeneye effin ruled. Too bad I sold it along with my N64 a few months ago. I didn't really play it enough though.

ok I have played a resident evil it was on ps2 it was called outbreak
and I don’t if it counts as an actual resident evil but it was pretty crap there WAS levels in it and the game play was very repetitive and the story was not complex
so unless this game is completely different from the normal series
it would have to be the most overrated game ever
Shakezulah
No, it's not part of the normal series. So don't judge an entire series based on your single experience with a side game. There's not really supposta be a story in it, just that all the survivors are trying to escape. Either way, it's actually pretty fun, and I don't see how it's repetitive at all. And most overrated game EVER? No...not by a long shot. If anything, it's actually kinda underrated.

I hope your right I was disappointed when I played this
you know after all the hype about RE games
Ill rent resident evil 4 then if you say there different

what do you mean you don’t see it repetitive
in the first level you walk around ages with guns shooting random things hitting switches etc
and when you finally finish that level the other ones are the same
nothing really happens sad.gif
Hendrix
oh yeah and i played one on playstation 1 ages ago
and i hated that but i imagine they have changed alot since then
Shakezulah
Yeah, you make it sound more repetitive than it actually is. You don't shoot random things...you shoot the zombies and monsters trying to attack you. You hit maybe 1 or 2 switches in the first level. The other levels are nowhere near the same. Yeah, it's the same concept: survive and escape. But there are different puzzles to solve, enemies to kill, and things to collect. I fail to see how this game is repetitive in the least.

If you want to play RE4, then I suggest playing through the other main games first (1,2,3), especially if you're concerned about story. CVX and 0 aren't really needed, but they are still damng good games.
Hendrix
if you cant see how it is reapititive
then your mind works on a differemnt level to mine
i dont get entertained by such bland gameplay ( referring to outbreak ) mellow.gif
Shakezulah
Well, whether you think so or not, Outbreak doesn't have bland gameplay at all. But whatever. I suggest you play the RE1 remake on the GC. It's a truely amazing game.
Hendrix

oh it doesn’t have bland gameplay ??
care to Elaborate on that one
an example maybe?
Shakezulah
*sigh*

I already gave examples in my post before the last one. Or did you even bother to read it?
Hendrix
yeah i read it but you just suported the fact that it does have bland gameplay

you go through shoot random zombies and flick a few switches and you end up going through the same place over and over nothing happens how is it not bland ??
Shakezulah
Ok....how are any of the enemies random? They're supposta be there. That's the main point of the game: to shoot zombies and avoid them. It's not like it's pointless. What would you expect to fight in a RE game? The puzzle solving is more than just flicking switches. Yeah, there are switches and buttons to press, but that's only PART of the challenge. And you must have been doing something wrong if you were going to the same places over and over again and nothing was happening. Of course there's going to be backtrakcing, though. The concept of survival horror isn't hard to understand at all, but you make it seem so. To call the game bland is just plain ignorant. It isn't as complex of gameplay as the main games, but still, not repetitive or bland or anything. If you look at the game the way you do, you are going to find it very boring. Try paying a little attention to appreciate how unique each scenario and section of the game is, and don't see it as just shooting zombies and pressing buttons, because there's a lot more to it than that.
Hendrix
well we are only talking about game play here
and when I say random I don’t mean it that way
you have to back track and go back to places you have been over and over
as part of the puzzles in the game it gets very tedious
Calling it bland is not ignorant im just saying it how it is
And man saying it isn’t repetitive is ignorant every level in outbreak is the same more or less

Try and actually listen to what im saying here and you might open your eyes
Outbreak is nothing special !
Shakezulah
I understand what you're saying. I just don't understand why you're saying it. The levels aren't really the same, considering there's different things to do in them. There's not THAT much backtracking in the game to make it tedious. It's like that the first time through, but once you know where to go and where all the items are, it becomes a breeze. However, there is more backtracking than in the main games. I know Outbreak is nothing special, especially compared to the other games, but it still isn't that bland either. Did you even get to the hospital? Having the Leechman stalk you throughout the level is pretty damn cool, if you ask me. Abd Outbreak File 2 is supposed to be tons better, as well. Anyways, I highly suggest playing the main games. Start with 1 on the GC. It rules.
Hendrix
yeah i got to the hospital
is the Leechman that big fella with the axe cause yeah that was pretty cool ..... at first
but you cant kill him and it pisses you off after a while u know when your trying to do sumthin then he comes
pretty freaky looking though grin2.gif
BazookaTooth
Shenmue/shenmue2 are also classiscs in my book, shame they keep starting and canceling shenmue 3.
Super Pancake
Sega said Shenmue 3 is done they just want a next Gen system to exclusively sign them. Also Sega said that whoever signs them must take all 3 games, that would be awesome. I can play the original again, and I hope they fix that one part of the game where you had to lift crates in Shenmue 2 or its back to gambling for me.
Paranoid Android
WONDERBOY! and WONDERBOY IN MONSTERLAND! w00t.gif

Are these not classics?

Ok, maybe not quite. Of the choices there, I've gone for Halo, although I have never played Final Fantasy or Resident Evil, and I've heard a lot about those games that make me think.

But seriously, the breakthrough game for me would have to be Unreal. Unreal, while fundamentally not any different to earlier games like Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, (Quake 1 is still one of my alltime fav's), did have a superior engine that I found much better to any other.

On a personal note, Unreal Tournament was also the game that got me out of the 2 dimensional world of keyboard/arrowkeys into 3 dimensions with the mouse-look. Maybe this is colouring my perception, but I've always liked the movement from Unreal more than any other.

This is just my opinion though.

Shake, Hendrix just posted a question in another topic asking when a movie came out. The date was posted three times on the three massive posters the topic was created for.

Evidently said member is missing the correct components to enjoy the game series and actually see what he's supposed to be seeing, arguing this is going to be like trying to explain the same thing to a two year old. You've given your examples, he choses to ignore him, the best bet would be to just ignore him in return.

Disinterested's signature quote sums this up quite nicely.
