The best advice I can give you is to think of empathy as love, 'cause really, that's what it is. We can't help who we love, so you have to just accept it. You're just the kind of guy who's gonna cry when his girlfriend is treated badly. That's a good thing and she ought to appreciate it. I know men aren't supposed to cry and all that crap, but you are who you are. In the long run, when you get married or have children, your empathy is going to come in very, very handy. It's really an amazing gift.

GIve her a big kiss, a cuddle, and booya.
If you're a good friend, she won't be sad anymore.

an empath experiences empathy right away when they physically contact someone----idk about empathy without physical contact,,,,probably not as instant

are we thinking empathy as in the supernatural ability to feel what some1 else is feeling or just with the body language thing, for the supernatural part if u were wanting to control it then u would look toward meditation (argh the cliché) but yer really meditation is the way to go with anything to do with control over the mind, becuase if just gives u time to sort out whats going on, a nice lil breather as it were as it was lol. although if ur thinking about the body language thing then i have no idea, i think that sort of empathy is a good thing cos we all have the ability to observe ppl and make a judgement on how theyre feeling, and i suppose if u dont want to just ignore body language signals then there is no way

The scientific explaination for empathy is illustrated with animals. All higher animals give of a chemical expressing their emotional state. This chemical is known as Pheremones. It is also the reason for sexual attraction. That is why a couple will stay together even though they are incapatable.(i.e. people stay in abusive relationships) Animals used as pets such as horses and dogs literally "smell" a persons emotional state therefor knowing their emotions and feelings and reacting to them. A person who is a "empath" is hypersensitive to the pheremones that others give off that is why they "feel" their emotions.

Well for one, you should protect yourself, All you have to do is place a bubble around yourself (sort of a shielding). Since you are empathic, then you need to do this everyday, like in the morning when you are getting ready. Just intently white light yourself to protect you from negative energy. This will also "lessen" the effects of what you feel from others. I go as far as place mirrors facing outward to reflect whatever is negatively sent to me away.

It is different for us all, and many people have ways of doing so. My sensitivity is ridiculous. When I touch things, or even lay where someone else has been, I feel the vibrations. Most of the time its really "dirty", so I dont like to touch handles and stuff like that all too often. It really gets nerving at times, but hey, I have to deal with it and find ways to adjust to my surroundings.

Meditation also works, it will allow you to seperate what is yours and what is not. You also need to continue to tell yourself and "release" the emotions you have absorbed. "These are not mines, I release this" (blow out deeply). It should work. But that is just a little something you could try.

I also do what PisceanPoet does but I set my shields into jewelry so that I do not have to renew them as often or think on them. I have a necklace that I never take off, not even to shower. I hold it in my hand and first I picture a wall around me. What kind of wall is entirely up to you. Piscean mentioned a bubble. I imagine a silver ball as it is reflective. Then I think of stone which sets it into the jewelry. The better you get at it, the less you have to renew it into the jewelry. When I first learned how to do it I had to renew it daily. Now I only have to do it once or twice a year at most.

Hey I'm an empath too and i have found many ways to block people out. but i'll give you 3 or 4 to help w/ ur position.
1. (only if ur into the whole chakra thing) Imagine a gold swirling shield flowing around ur solar plexus (3rd chakra) at about ur abdominals. picture that nothing can get through and leave it until u want to get back to ur empathy then imagine it falling away in whisps of golden smoke.
2. Imagine a shiny mirror infromt of you that nothing can get through and that it sends any energy back to the person who sent it.
3.Imagine a shiny cord from ur (whereever u feel the emotions) and connected at the persons (where ever u feel the emotions) and then picture it breaking and all their emotions flowing back.
Also IDK if this is just me but my empathy won't work right after i eat so try eating some crackers or something small (so u dont look like a fatty)

By the sound of it your not going to stay here long so I'll just tell you. To get rid of empathy don't give it any attention and it will go away. Sooner than you think.

oh yeah always remeber that whenever you imagine a shield always keep it in motion. Imagine a swamp and a stream. The pond is probably icky, grimy, slimy, and just purely gross w/ moss bugs and parasites. The stream is probably fresh and clean with beautiful healthy fish (though im afraid of fish). Thats because an odject in motion contains more energy than a stagnant object...so when the shield is moving you give it more energby thus making it more potent! yea!

This kind of "explanation" makes me so sad. What has happened to people's own emotional awareness that they don't know this is nonsense? I'm not saying pheromones don't exist, but emotions are not "communicated" by them. I would think just going to the movies would cure people of this kind of materialistic foolishness. People cry at movies, not simply because they sympathize with the characters' situations but because the characters themselves (actors) are feeling emotions and these emotions are communicated to the audience without freakin' pheromones. Emotions have a field effect and the only reason this is not perfectly understood by everyone is that people nowadays are desensitized and cut off from each other. crying.gif
