Well that's more personal than a banner hanging saying "Merry Christmas". When the person directs it at you it can get annoying. And it does. I don't celebrate Christmas and I always get "Merry Christmas!" when I go places. -_-

I work at a big international retail store and recently ive been told to answer the phone with "Merry Christmas". I had a muslim girl that works with me saying "why should i say that? Do i say "happy eid" or anything else". I saw her point. I personally just make assumptions by looking at people, if theres a cross around their neck- i feel non threatened to wish them a very merry Christmas. I've said to some non Christians and they smile and wish me the same, its pretty cool. No offence should be taken either way me thinks?

I don't really take offense to it, just find it odd that they tell that to everyone. O_o

PA that is an execellant point you made. Perhaps if we celebrate Christ's birth on Christmas day we could tell of the birth story and that. We could decorate in manager type themes rather then Pagan- christmas tree whatnot.

But when a person cl;early does not do the tree in a way for the other gods how is it wromg?

Hmm, this is a question I ask people when this is brought up. Would you think it right if the Arch-bishop of Sydney were to try and convert people to Christianity by saying "Look, the gay and lesbian mardi-gras that's held once a year, we'll keep all the floats, all the costumes, all the music, have it on the same day, in the same way, we'll just change it so it's not a gay and lesbian celebration, but a celebration of God's love".

Do you think this is right? Would you, as a Christian, march in the parade to worship God, when just last year, the same thing was being done as a celebration of homosexuality?

Is this not what is being done with Christmas? A blatantly non-Christian holiday being celebrated for God! If you think about it like this, it doenst' really make sense, does it?

Just a thought.

I never knew Mardi gras were in any way Christian.

But maybe when people do something like that.

Once we did Halleugh night on Halloween. We did a Christian pizza party with other things.

Oh and once we vissited a Hell House on Halloween.

Mardi Gras aren't Christian. It was hypothetical.

What is a Halleugh night?

In our youth group we would sing and dance - hang out play games til 12:00 on Halloween at Church. This is halleugh night.

Did I spell Hallleugh wrong? sad.gif

ha ha. Like something fine- satin.

LOL.

Well what do atheists do on Christmas? They do the same as us. But without the Birth story.

It is all the same isn't it?

in the usa all the jewish people go to chinese restaurants because they are open, and everyone has the day off. It is a beautiful time of rejoicing and eating chinese food. The meaning of mardi gras is "fat tuesday" the day before ash wednesday, the first day of lent. the idea is to have fun and blow off steam before the austerity of the 40 days of lent, preceding easter. very christian. i don't think many protestants celebrate it.

I've been thinking about this and just came to an amusing conclusion. Instead of saying Merry Christmas, they'll say Happy Holidays.

Think about where we get the term holidays from? Holi-days, holy days. The phrase was coined when people would take time off work and attend their various religious holy days. Now, holidays has a very different meaning, but going back to its roots, Happy Holidays is saying the exact same thing as Merry Christmas tongue.gif

I find that highly amusing, PA; good point. Instead lets all gather around and sing "Feriae Beatae".
