Angels are really old and pre-date the Bible. And despite what people say, angels in the Bible *do* have wings, the Seraphim. Well it's pre-Christian though, because the angels were in the Old Testament, so it's not like the Christians created them.

they definitely preceeded this particular creation. who do you think Elohim was speaking to? let us create man in our image, etc. from time to time in the hebrew scriptures, god is talking to someone, but it is not specified-that is the angels. they are direct emations of the one, although God values their opinion. they have no free will, supposedly, but they have minds of their own. so in some ways they are both lesser and greater than we are. no, of course it makes no logical sense.basically, the creator is so detached from the creation, the angels are almost like god's limbs, body parts. when it says something like, "God stretched forth his right arm", interpret, "he sent one of the most powerful angels". when god interracts with humans, it is usually through angels. there are many different kinds, just like we have white corpuscles and skin cells. or, imagine god in a space ship, sending holograms. they don't really look like god, and they have their own personalities. dead people don't become angels. when you die, your neshamah goes to She'ol, then returns to god.

But "Satan" would have to have free will. In the Book of Enoch, angels in the tenth heaven have free will.

It wasn't put in the Bible because it was viewed as heretical.

That's right, and heretical means that it is not accepted by that particular religion as either dogma or the word of the deity.

I know that. I never said it was accepted as dogma.

He was speaking to the other persons of the godhead - Jesus and the Holy Spirit

Sorry, couldn't help it, just had to say that

I don't know much about the angels, except that they were made before man, they are greater than man at the moment, but after the resurrection they will be lesser.

Well, Jesus wasn't elected "God" (wincing), until the council of Nicea, and the holy spirit and the trinity were voted on at the council of constantinople-my turn not to resist!
