Be yourself.

Talk to people you find interesting. Be interesting yourself.

Be willing to be the one to "break the ice". Guys tend to appreciate this. It also gives you some degree of control in the conversation.
Also if things don't seem to be "clicking", don't be fearful of striking up a conversation with someone else. Sometimes we find ourselves talking to just one person & not getting out of our comfort zone. Well, if you don't step forward...you probably won't get anywhere.
If you are in mixed company talk to both men & women. Here's why...who knows if the woman you are talking to may have a brother or co-worker who would be good for you.
Being set up on dates didn't really work for me, but that is because I was being set up by my sister. If someone is wanting to set you up, make sure they know your type! Nothing worse then setting up a metal head with a CW fan.

There has to be at least a little something in common.
Remind yourself that you are not the only one who is nervous & afraid of possible rejectionMen are human beings just like us. So often we tend to think that they aren't, but they are.
Good luck! Let us know if anything help!!!
