Here's one my family has used for longer than I know.

If you get stung by a bee or wasp:

Take a small bit baking soda, mix it with a little water to make a paste. Rub it on the sting & let it dry til it falls off. It helps keep the swelling down & relieves the pain. yes.gif

I've used it sooo often. It's cheaper than those medication sticks you can buy, and most everyone has baking soda on hand.

My Grandmother used to use "DMSO", (a brand of soap), for arthritis pain. I've not seen it in the stores for a number of years now though.

Put white toothpaste on your spots before you go to bed and wash it off in the morning. It dries them out.

Use olive oil to soften your skin. Rub it in and then rinse it off. It's brilliant stuff.

Vasaline on your eyelashes makes them all thick and long.

I've never tried this myself, but my mom told me about it. Her dad used this trick during the Great Depression. They were *really* poor then, like most people in the country. When anyone in the family had a sore throat my grandfather would make them homemade cough drops. He'd dice an onion up fine, cook it slowly in a skillet to caramelize the sugar in it, then mix it with honey and lemon juice and cook the whole mess until it reached "hard ball" stage. That's where, if you drop a little bit into cold water, it forms a hard ball. (If you've ever made fudge, you probably know what "soft ball" stage is like. This is just a bit more cooked than that.) Then he'd drop it out onto a cookie sheet and let the drops harden.

I usually make hot lemonade for a sore throat. I make it just like regular lemonade, only using hot water and lots of sugar. Honey is better, unless of course you're giving it to infants or toddlers, who should never be given honey as it can kill them.

Cider vinegar on bee-stings works well.

Honey is excellent on burns - takes the pain right out and is antiseptic.

on the same line, you can get a plastic bottle, cut off about the top 1/4 and then place the top back on the bottle so that it looks like a funnel. Then fill the bottle with a sugary substance, fizzy pop will do, and the wasps will fly into the bottle but are incapable of escaping. ph34r.gif

or try hanging a bag up somewhere outside, and the wasps think it is a rival wasps nest and stay well away!

as you might be able to tell I hate wasps! yes.gif
