Internationally renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino presents Eli Roth's "Hostel," the follow-up to the writer-director's hit debut, 2002's "Cabin Fever". More grisly than Roth's feature bow, "Hostel" is a mixture of many of the most terrifying things about human nature and the world at large, culled from many impossible-but-true stories of human trafficking, international organized crime, and sex tourism. Relentlessly graphic and deeply disturbing, the film is sure to shock even the most hard core genre fans.

"Hostel" tells the story of two adventurous American college buddies Paxton and Josh who backpack through Europe eager to make quintessentially hazy travel memories with new friend Oli, an Icelander they've met along the way.

Paxton and Josh are eventually lured by a fellow traveler to what's described as a nirvana for American backpackers – a particular hostel in an out-of-the-way Slovakian town stocked with Eastern European women as desperate as they are gorgeous. The two friends arrive and soon easily pair off with exotic beauties Natalya and Svetlana. In fact, too easily...

Initially distracted by the good time they're having, the two Americans quickly find themselves trapped in an increasingly sinister situation that they will discover is as wide and as deep as the darkest, sickest recess of human nature itself – if they survive.

The previews and commericals are just insanely wicked. I cannot wait to see this. The true events in this have been taken from cases over the world. I'm hoping this will be as good as it is advertised. thumbsup.gif

This movie is going to be so awesome. I was watching some clips for it the other day. Really great stuff! I heard that many scenes had to be cut out to even have it at an R rating. Imagine what the DVD will be like...*drools*....

Hell yeah! grin2.gif

I heard on a TV spot for this movie, that paramedics had to be called to an advanced screening of the film because, apparently, some people just couldn't handle it. This movie must be insanely sick. Don't ever recall seeing a truely and deeply disturbing movie. I just hope this is it. devil.gif

I did not really like cabin fever maybe this will be good. QT is the man but I only liked pulp fiction, and kill bill.

Does anybody know what is QT's role in the film did he direct it, produce it, or is he just putting his name on it to sell it?

Yeah, I saw that last night about the paramedics coming out. They're using it in their commercials now for advertising.

Each commercial I see it just really quick shots. Jerks are teasing me... wacko.gif

Did a search quick:

There is some controversy around the fact that there is a steadily increasing amount of films out that have a little line on their respective trailers and posters that say "Quentin Tarantino presents". Many have dissed Miramax for doing that on Zhang Yimou's excellent Hero or the cheap My Name is Modesty film, because it gives some people the wrong impression of Tarantino having something to do with the actual film itself. On the one hand, QT's name gives a film more publicity and better chances of getting marketed. On the other, it shifts the focus away from the actual director and it sounds too commercial. No matter of what opinion, there's yet another film coming out that is "presented" by Quentin Tarantino. And this time, it's a film he has personally endorsed and executive produced. The film is called HOSTEL and is the brainchild of director Eli Roth, who has impressed QT with his previous efford Cabin Fever.

Actually, I've read a review from Bloody-Disgusting.com that said that only 8 secs of only one scene was removed. All of the "eye-catching" stuff is still going to be in it.

Seen the trailer and this is one movie I have to see on the Big Screen.

jennybabie
wow, so whats the real events of this movie anyways? i'd like to see it also
JennRose
It's not really based on real events-- Quneten and Eli were web-surfing and saw that there was a murder similar to this story, but Eli had already written the screenplay for it. I've seen some clips of it and it's pretty damn brutal.

I've knows Eli for a couple of years and he's really letting himself loose with this film; you don't like the characters, but you still feel sorry for them (especially when one is trying to crawl with severed ankles). I've also gotten to hang out with Barbara Nedeljakova (sp?) who plays Natalia in Hostel. She was there mainly for the nude shots. tongue.gif

Is it true?

In one of the commercials they said that the movie is so disturbing that some people passed out during the screenings and people had to call for an ambulance.

I don't know if you ever saw this film but do you think it can top the Guinie Pig films?

Which by far is the sickiest films ever made. You know somebody is a sadist if they like Guinie Pig, I still can't fathom why those 4 films exist.

edit you i take back that statement i think I've seen a worse onr I just got to think of the name.

i suggest get the vhs version for some reason the dvd version kind makes it too polish, i its just different (like imagine watching blair witch on high quality resolution). And you won't get a story out of it they don't seem to be horror movies but just a reason to excercise special effects. Also they are old film probably hard to find in your regular video store. and being that their old maybe they might not be as sadistic as some modern films. As I said i take back what i said i remember seeing this one grossly sick film I got to remeber the name i know i got the tape somewhere.

I thought you might be a gore fan. laugh.gif

Hmm... alright, I'll look around. I saw the list of retailers, one included best buy so... the stores around here should have them...hopefully.

Yeah... gore... it's like real life compared to living. It's amazing once you start peeling off the layers of "humanity" and get into some spots on the web. You see what happens and you just can't see the world like you did before. ph34r.gif

So it's to be released this Friday... I hope I can go opening night or at least Saturday. I doubt I'll need the paramedics for me. laugh.gif I'd rather die right there then have my face all over the tv saying I fainted over a movie. tongue.gif

how far does interest go?

I remember smiling when i saw this vid of a girl (14-16 years old) jumping on a trampoline and was pushed by another girl she fell awkwardly and broke her neck. Unknown to me at first I thought it was just a film student doing a little cool video but that was a real (kind of sad it was all over the net back then for people to download, now you can find all the crap you want). Since then I don't know I find the real thing satisfying compared to a movie, I don't know what that says about me, probably get some frowned looks by other people. Makes me think if I should just call myself a sadist instead of a horror gore movie fan.

I'm soooo seeing this on Friday. Hopefully I wont have too much trouble getting in.

Someone who sees it please tell me if the psychological terror is well fleshed out or if its just an 'ewww gross... yurgh" type of film. I have no problem with gore, but the mind is where horror is at.

I was thinking about these quotes by you and thought i might recommend you one of the movies i own "Salo" (I'm not saying i like this film but its interesting) it has gore, better then most of the average gore movies by Takashi Miike.

But most importantly it does have a story, philosophy and a purpose to it. The story involves metaphoric themes of fascism, nazism, nihilistic attitudes, and I believe the events actually happened, it was expressing the times of post WWII. One more thing is that the director was trying to do was bring sanity to people, he wanted to offend and disturb people. He believed that people were "evil" and desensitized by reality. To prove it I think his point was if you stayed and watched the film with out it disturbing you; you are a voyeurist that have no respect for human kind, and just as cruel as the antagonist in the film

I totally disagree with the voyeurist thing, the first time I saw it I was disturbed by it but then again its just entertainment and another lesson that man is cruel and evil animal. I wish the guy was alive today the movie was to ahead of its time (I guess) the guy got killed some time after the movie came out, some guy did not like it and stabbed him repeatedly to death. no.gif

Which movies of his? I did a quick search and he has... tons of movies out. Also I think he is still alive, I don't see a death date and he has a tv series last year (2005). He does sound very interesting though. I can't say I like a lot of the stuff I see, but I'm interested if that makes any sense.
Super Pancake
oops I forgot to put the title its called "Salo" by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Takashi Miike is a good director has lots of film with some graphic gore scenes. You might of heard of some of them like my favorite Ichi the Killer and Audition.

are you familiar to Asian horror cinema?

I went to 2 theaters yesterday. They were both completely packed to the brim. The first one had about 150 people in the lobby. It's a huge place. The second place is smaller, but the lines for the tickets were still absolutely huge. This movie is going to have a really good openeing weekend. So, bottom line, I didn't get to see this movie yesterday. I guess I'll wait until next weekend. disgust.gif

not as gorey as i thought it would be, plenty of naked women, but all in all i liked it.

Tillghast
Yea. Either Hostel or Bloodrayne...hmmm...this is tough.
Shakezulah
That should not be a tough choice.

Should you go see Hostel, a unqiue, gory, entertaining horror movie?
Or should you go see Bloodrayne, a crappy action movie made by the worst director of our time, Uwe Boll?

Like I said, not a tough choice.

I saw Hostel, and I didn't like it. It had its moments, like Takashi Miike's cameo and the naked girls and the asian girl jumping in front of the train ala Suicide Club, but overall the story wasn't too good. The gore was also overrated IMO; I don't see how anyone could have been grossed out to the point that they needed hospitalization. I would have much rather seen Munich instead.
undeadlizard
yeah i totally agree with you shakezulah bloodrayne was really bad done!!!! but why thounh? i mean they could have made this movie into a hit but i guess no one really cared. i was totally disapointed from the movie (bloodrayne)

hey riotboy555 i kinda agree with you. i mean it was not a bad movie but not awesome either. i liked the small plot

i have the impresion that lions gate films is starting to get big. i saw a preview for another LGF movie.
