I'd see if any high speed companies were in the area and then call them all asking if they have any specials going on for renewed or new customers.

Last time I had to renew my basic DSL, I asked if there was any specials going on and now I've got upgraded DSL line for actually cheaper (19.95 a month) then normal dsl (26 bucks a month).

Your internet never stays at a constant speed. My best guess would be a spike in traffic on your services server, you were trying to load something else or starting up another program.
I go between 900kb/s and 1.5mb/s on my connection. It's perfectly normal.

I agree 100% with you. I am on a 20Mbit cable connection and the so-called speed test showed the connection as 2.1Mbit! Strange that immediately afterwards I was downloading at the full 20Mbit from UseNET via Grabit!!!!! Also get the full 20Mbit download speeds from Microsoft and many of the Linux distro sites.

The above image is from the other site for testing listed, with the wife on the other PC downstairs surfing around. Not far off what I would expect.

Even though I can't stand Comcast as a company, the speed is nice.
