just wanted to no if anyone here saw the nostrodamus special they had on the history channel last night... if you did tell me what you thought.. i found it so interesting.. i will say though... the skepetics at the end had a good point.. but for overall things of his prophecies he had to many coincidences to be fake or a meaning of something else.

I saw it and it was interesting, but you have to consider that for every "good" prophecy featured on the show, there were dozens and dozens of others N. wrote that still do not relate to any event we know of in history. And even of the ones that are similar to real events, a large number are not specific enough to say they are truly a prophecy or merely coincidences. It is kind of a stretch, when N. mentions the name of a German river (Hister), and it it turned into a German (Austrian) person (Hitler). One would think that if he was a real prophet, he would have known the difference between a river and a person. But a "fan" is going to say, "look how similar these are"...... in name yes, but rivers and humans are very different things.

I made a point to miss it. My biggest problem with his predictions is that he made so many of them and they were written in such a way that they could mean almost anything. If you make enough predictions then sooner or later a few of them are bound to come true. People will cheer the one or two that came true and totally forget the thousands of others that did not.

There is an old saying that fits this perfectly:
"Even a broken clock is right twice a day".

good qoute there about the clocks.. its just interesting... referring to a specific event or not.. what many people dont pay attention to is that he is talking about nuclear war and weapons that were not even around in his day and age.. the things hes referring to in his quatrains are not even invented or found yet... that is what i find most interesting.

I agree, however I have heard it explained that Hister is an ancient name for the Danube region where Hitler grew up; Even so, this raises the same problems as the river version.

I doubt very much he is referring to nuclear weapons; That's just the most exciting interpretation we have, hence it's the most popular.

I'm not sure if this is the same show, but I once watched a program on Nostradamus and a skeptic pointed out the fact that the so-called predictions are in fact 'postdictions'; They only become valid after the event has happened, at which point somebody thumbs through the verses and finds something that fits the event. Until somebody makes an actual prediction and it proves to be true, I remain doubtful of Nostradamus' works.

I watched it too since History channel is my favorite, and found it interesting. The only thing I don't like about his prophecies is that they are so vague and it's hard to figure out what some of them predict until it happens and can be compared to it.

I did not watch the show....I do however have a book with the all the quatrains in it. It is not something that is easy to read since unless you are looking for something specific or for a past event it is almost impossible to make anything out of them

Redraider, it is interesting but only if ur able to read the texts in obscure gutteral 16th centuary french, if not then theyve been open to interpretation and whatever phant'sy that took the interpretaur of the time.

Listen, people choose to interpret his writing to fit their needs for the time. This man could no more predict the future any more than you or I. Not to mention the history channel is just horrible with this kind of stuff. Half the show is nonsense and the rest is just to fill the remaining time space.

Nostrodamus wrote in such a vauge style that I think this was his intent all along. To keep people guessing. I could say the same for the "bible code". If it's so real than predict the future already. don't take stuff and apply it after the events. That's the thing with Nostrodamus, we take from his writing what we want.

Now if someone actually interprets one of his "visions" and it turns out to actually happen, I might second guess it .
