I havn't experianced the old hag... or another demon pouncing on my chest.. But something i have experianced is waking up and not being able to move. In bright day light.. My cousin said that it was caused by having such a terrifing nightmare that my body shut down. as away of protecting myself. The only way i have been able to get out of it is by trying to twitch my neck... The scary thing that i wonder about is what if one of your parents came in and seen you like that... Would you further indep the experiance and go deeper into the trance...?

I have never heard of sleep paralysis happening in the day time, but I suppose that it is possible with extreme tiredness.

Something like this happened a few years ago to a friend of mine. He was lying on the floor in his dad's house and suddenly he couldn't move or speak. He was still breathing, though. At first, he was kind of curious, but when he couldn't sit up, he started to panic. He could only blink and breathe, he soon discovered. His dad walked in and asked him what he was doing, be when he didn't respond, his dad assumed he was sleeping. Eventually my friend decided to try to move his little finger. When he did that, he tried to move all his fingers, then his whole hand, then arm, etc, until he snapped out of it. As near as he can figure, he thinks his brain's "sleep switch" was somehow "flipped" and his body went into deep sleep mode even though he was still awake. I'm not sure what to make of it to this day, but take this story with a grain of salt because this friend is also known to be an occasional drug user.

I must admit that this has never happened in daylight, but in the night yes. Waking up paralysed is not something thathas happened for a long time, but it certainly is very frightening. What I will suffer more from is paralysis as I am about to fall asleep, and this could happen several times of night; strangely always on a Sunday, after a few token pints to ease me out of the weekend.

It's not nice, but at the end of the day, the body and the mind don't always go to sleep at the same time. They may be a few seconds apart. When you are paralysed that couple of seconds seems like an eternity.
The same happens with the thud in the chest when I am dropping off. I can near jump up to the ceiling when that happens. Again this is down to you dropping off and the mind magnifies simple activities such as a missed heartbeat. A kind of nocturnal panic really; again a surprisingly common event.

I remember hearing somewhere that when this happened, it meant your spirit person was out of your body when you awakened, and it was in the same room as you, staring down at yourself. I don't have much information on it, though.

With respect when it happens to her, she can't move or speak therefore how can you sit with her and hold her hand till she's over it, when she can't let you know she's going through it?

I have on several occasions been asleep and dreaming I was awake... and couldn't move... but I couldn't wake up either... (it's like after a few minutes .. I know I am asleep and dreaming... and want to wake up ..but can't).... Usually the only way I can wake up is a loud noise or either my cats would jump on the bed...
I wonder if I make any sound while this is going on..?

Hiya Dave
I t has happened to her a dozen time id say, the first time it happened to her she just laid there moving her eyes, i called an ambulance, and when they arrived she was coming out of it, they took her anyway, and the doctors found nothing, so when this happens i try and remain cool and hold her hand till she gets threw it, which has happened everytime so far, i hope to never find out the other.
My wife is a very vivid dreamer, and she remembers them most of the time, every now and then she does have a bad nightmare, and wakes screaming sometimes, and on the few other times was totally unable to move

This happens to me quite frequently. Ill wake up with a start in the middle of the night but just cant move. It always happens upon waking from a disturbing dream. Something instinctive always posseses me to fight it . I must fall alseep aftwerwards tho because when i awake in the morning, it seems like a distant memory. Sorta like when you have too much to drink and ya wake up on the kitchen floor, not remebering why.
I used to think I was being abducted untill the invention of the internet. Thank god for the internet. Its like having a television with a billion channels.

Wow, I'm not sure what brought me to this sight but I'm here. When I was a kid between five to eight years, my body would become paralyzed as well. Now, this was in conjunction with a sleepy daze that I would go into before I would fully awaken but I would be unable to move my body. Now this happened a lot when I was young but I also used to dream alot during that time as well. Now that Im older, I dont dream hardly at all anymore nor do I have this paralysis thing happen when I'm lying down.
The way I used to move or get myself moving was concentrating on making quick jolting movements with my feet or legs, which in turn would make the bed move and allow me to move.
There was one incident that I will remember for the rest of my life. Within a few weeks of this incident happening, when I was in paralysis or whatever you want to call it, I would hear movements in my room. The incident itself, Im assuming happened late at night, because my parents had turned the lights out in our living room and I didnt hear the TV on. While I was laying there, I heard a movement at the foot of my bed and then, you know when you get that feeling like someones looking or staring at you, thats what I felt. The funny thing when I wasnt able to move I could always move my eyeballs, this time for some reason my head was faced towards the ceiling so I couldnt really see around my room too good, unlike other times were I would be laying on my side or somewhat on my stomach, it was almost like I was moved into this posistion. At the foot of my bead I then began to hear a low deep chuckle/laughter. I was so scared, I didnt know what to do...the rest of that experience has left my memories years ago, perhaps through not wanting to remember or who know? Thank you all for sharing your stories, ideas and thoughts, any help in understanding what happened would be greatly appreciated.

That is so creepy Tain. The only logical explanation i can offer would be that perhaps it was part of the dreamy haze you reffered to. Do you have any siblings or parents who likes to play practical jokes?
There are also alot of negative explanations considering the fact that you have blocked out most of it. Blocking things out is a self defense mechanism used by children to escape things that are often too horrible to comprehend.
I dont wanna make any guesses as what those could be.

Soo.. yeah. I think it was a dream.

Well, I would like to say it was a dream but I know it wasnt. It was clear everytime 100% of the time as a matter of fact. I could hear the TV in the living room other times and the dicussions or the voices from the TV and hear my parents talking. This time although in fear and even though I was young, I ensured that this was real, by listening to other noises around me like the wind outside, the creak of my bed, the heater working and the chill of the air.
As far as trying to suppress the past, I can tell you for a fact, I know what I know but the fear of the event I believe triggered an effect that kept this in the back of my mind, I think...who knows.
One other note and maybe this ties in who knows, actually lets make this two more.
When I was approximately the same age around eight to ten living in California, its been a while, but back to it...I was babysiting my sister...wait the dreams and stuff happened when I was about twelve or so...so scratch the five to eight...anyways, While I was babysitting I got this feeling like something was watching me while I was sitting in our recliner in our living room...so I went to my room and grabbed my bat...like I was going to do something...LOL, while I was sitting there, I saw something move by our hallway really quick, I turned to look and nothing. So now Im freaked out, but my curiosity keeps my periphial keeps guard, this time I see something again, its short and dark, I quickly turned my head and you know when your young or even whenever and you do that things arent really there, well, not this time. As I spun around and looked I saw it as it began to run away, it looked like a little man, about a foot tall with raggedy cloths on and what appeared to be a head dress with a small cane in his hand. I was so scared I nearly pissed on myself but was concerned about my sister. So I got into angry mode and gribbed down on my baseball bat searching for this thing but to no success. Now, years later in the military I was driving down the road near my aunties house in Wailua, HI and I saw what looked like a bird run in the middle of the street, it turned but it looked like again, a one foot tall type of man in in rags, a headdress that was distinctive like it was in some sort of ceremonial attire. I attempted to stop but it was too late, I struck it with my vehicle and heard the thud. Now my first wife was with me and saw it too and screamed, when I told her I wanted to stop she yelled at me not to get out of the car and she was scared. So I waited till I got to a lite street and examined the undercarriage of my car and the front. My plate had a small dent towards the bottom that curved in, like I struck something the height of a foot, but there was no blood or anything else. I turned around on the road and saw nothing else.
Now, years later while I was stationed in Pendleton, on my way to work it was foggy and as I got off the freeway headed for the gate, I got a weird feeling, and again from left to right running this time I saw the same thing I remember seeing two other times, I slammed on my brakes, and as it ran across, it looked at me intensly and made it across the road. I continued to go to work but was freaked out and called my second wife what I saw, whe has been the second person that I've told this to and not that this is on the web, I guess everyone else knows now too.
Along with the sleep paralysis is also a brief story of when I was in charge of a route checkpoint located in Northern Australia, this was for a support mission in east timore. As I went down to go to sleep, I felt a slight paralysis in my body, and if your not familiar with a military tents some have opening on the top to air it our, well when I got this sensation, I saw green eyes from the top staring at me laughing, I jolted my leg again and woke up, grabbed my weapon and told another sergeant, we checked the perimeter and nothing. It sure as hell freaked the other marines out as well. Later I talked to a Australian MP who said that were we were at there have always been stories of the devil walking in the woods and would change shape as well.
As far as all the freakie stories I know of , thats about it. I've seen small things hear and there but only glimmers of what could have been my imagination but this stuff I just told you happened. Please, if anyone knows anything of this or can point me in the right direction for additional research, let me know. Thanks for your time.

Hello Everyone,
I have experienced SP in the daytime many times. It is possible! In college, after a long night and classes, I used collapse on my bed at around 2pm and have SP. I beleive it can happen at any time, any where, so long as you are half asleep. My best friend experienced SP on a crowded commuter train, at around 10am!

I went to the bath and when I saw my self it make me cry. I was kind of blue. Then it all stop. My mother say that she taught I was dead. After that and for 1 week I couldn't speak. The doctor ack me if anyone tried to shock me because my throat was not right. But I was alone in my room.

I have had similar experiences myself. I don't know if we're all experiencing the same thing, but I think it's something more than just a sleeping paralysis. I don't know why I believe that, but I do.
I'm 21 now and I've been having these "episodes" since I was 14; or at least that's the earliest age at which I can remember these things happening to me. The reason I remember my first incident is probably because it was the most frightening for me and it happened on the night before my birthday.
I was laying in my bed and trying to sleep. I had left my TV on (like I normally do) and this night I had left my bedside lamp on. Later while I was in my bed, I realized that I couldn't move (although I knew I was still awake because I could hear music playing from my sister's room). A very soft, but high-pitched tone began ringing in my head... gradually getting more intense. All the while, I was struggling to wake myself up and i could feel myself trying to move (barely twitching my fingers and neck).
Then I felt my body rising up above my bed and suddenly, as my eyes were sealed shut, I began to see a figure surrounded by a bright light. I was terrified and I "struggled" really hard to wake myself up. As my body awoke I felt as though I had just been dropped onto my bed. I thought I was in like a dream when I woke up because I had woken up in a dark room. As I sat there in my bed still, not wanting to get up off of my bed, I realized that I was in my room.. and the electricity had gone out. I ran towards the door and tried to flip on the lights but they didn't work. I ran into my sister's room with a terrified look on my face and she asked me what had happened to me. I never told tell what I thought I had experienced.
Ever since then, I have on countless occasions experienced not being able to move in my bed in similar states. Never again did I experience being lifted, but I have experienced this "sleep paralysis." In the beginning I was so scared that I would never sleep with the door closed with the lights off. And finally, I figured that there was nothing I could really do. Occasionally, I would wake up from these experiences with a bloody nose.
The thing that scares me the most is that ever since then, around my birthday, the electricity has gone out in my room (and I've moved twice since that first incident) and I've had to replace the bulbs in the light fixtures.
I know everything in this story is so alien-abduction cliche; but, I'm just curious if anybody else has experienced something like this. Please reply if you have any ideas as to what's going on.

[B][COLOR=blue]HeLLo,
In our country, this Paralysis experienced of yours is called "Bangungot" by the Filipinos, but doctors say that this is a sleeping disorder caused by a Pancreatic disease.
I would suggest you to check your pancreas...okay?
Before, during the early 60s to 70s, the Filipino people have this saying that....
"Do not eat too much when you're about to sleep, becoz this will cause Bangungot"
Why? I really do not know, but this has become a belief in our society.
But later on, it is found that people who have experienced this is caused by a Pancreatic disorder.
