They interviewed psychics from NZ and Australia and tested them to choose who would feature in the show -
"The testing procedure used a little-known solved murder case; presented with only a photo of the victim, the psychics were asked to produce details of the crime, the location and the killer. "
This first episode was about a 13year old girl who was strangled with a pantyhose in Auckland on a 10minute walk home at about 9.30 at night in 1976. She was then dumped in a forest area. The murder was a pretty famous one, really, as it was in a suburban are and was completely random. The girl had been walked halfway home by her friend then walked the last 10minutes alone but never reached home.
The psychics were watched so they couldn't go out researching or anything (though, it's entirely possible that at least the NZ psychic would know a thing or two about it) and they were given a photograph and told to say everything they could "felt" or whatever from it. The Australian psychic, Deb, before even turning the photo over, gave a physical description of the girl (Tracey Ann), gave her name, described being strangled and mentioned the stocking. She mentioned the park Tracey and her friend had taken a shortcut through, mentioned her love of horses and both got the date correct. Deb also mentioned the body being found by a dog and it's owner, which was true. Sue, the NZ psychic, got the strangulation, mentioned the shortcut through the park, got the horses. Then it moved into areas that couldn't be proved. Deb mentioned a light-coloured car stopping by Tracey on her way home, Sue said a light blue. They both gave a similar explanation of the man (unshaven, grey mullet, oily hands as if they worked with heavy machinery). They both mentioned a gold signet ring that Tracey had worn and deliberately left in the car of her attacker. They both described how he had tricked her into getting close to the car by asking for directions.
Deb, after turning the photo over, pointed out where Tracey had lived and where her body had been dumped.
Then, on separate days, the women were taken to the house adn then both walked the exact same route that Tracey and her friend had taken, up to the point they parted. After that, there's little proof that they're right because Tracey wasn't seem but they still took the same route as eachother. Then, again on separate days, they were taken to the area of forest that Tracey's body was found, an area of 117 sq. km I think and pinpointed the place where her body was dumped, along a 50km stretch of road. While there, Deb gave a full name of the attacker and that he had a wife and 2 boys and had since moved further north, working with machinery. The police followed up on the name and found this guy lived just north of the area and indeed worked as a mechanic or with machinery. Sorry, my memory isn't too good - I wrote most of this down on a piece of paper but I missed a good deal, heh.
But yeah, what do you think? There are more episodes coming up and I'll record what they find. It sounded pretty darned nifty.
The last thing I wanted to mention was that, straight after, at 10pm at night was Ghost Hunt. One "paranomral investigator" (a title which is silly because the other "investigator" was a children's TV show presenter in 2004...) was wandering through a supposedly haunted house, talking about a prostitute who had been raped and murdered there. He mentioned how she has been seen in a white gown, very sophisticated-like, and before he left the lounge where she is most often seen he took 3 photos. Two had the flash on but the third didn't. They lightened the 3rd one and, sure enough, there was a figure in what appeared to be a dress, with elongated, elegant hands, leaning against the wall in a "come hither" fashion appearing to hold something in her hand. The sound of a teacup clinking had gotten the investigators attention in the first case. At the end of the show is a wee disclaimer saying that all photos haven't been altered unless stated. Creepy? I thought so, it being so late
But anyways, I have to go to bed. What do you think of either?
