that on the 6th day on the 6th month of the 6th year of the new melinium that the world will end who's prophecy is that?
Harks
666 is a christian belief, so I do not think it has any relevence to the mayan calander, plus the mayan calander runs on a different number system that deals mainly with the precession of the solar system and the galaxy

sorry I did not expand on the issue, I was just saying that the 6/6/06 is just a date and we associate the number of the beast with it. The Mayan prophecy is associated with their cycle calander based on the prcession of the galaxy, they have a numbering system using a cycle of approx 26000 years in the long count. Regarding the World Age cycle we are closing in 2012 and the new World Age cycle to dawn, there are varying cosmologies as to whether we are closing the Fifth World and entering the Sixth, or closing the Fourth World and entering the Fifth. For example, In the perspective of the living Maya Timekeepers of Guatemala, calendrically speaking, each element has a 5,125 year cycle. They teach that we have been through fire, earth, air and water already. The next cycle (beginning Dec 21, 2012) will be ether - the Fifth Age - the Age of Center. Likewise, the Hopi teach we are closing the Fourth World of Destruction, and preparing to begin the Fifth World of Peace. Regardless of the title given, what is clear is that we are on poised on the brink of a World Age Rebirth

yes, the Maya must have known that the earth is globe shaped. Like they knew about equinoctial precession and that the earth tilts as it orbits the sun. They not only worked into their calculations the effect of that tilt but how it occurs and how it affects the earth.

Wasn't their calender in the shape of a wheel?

The sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth year? Did you hear this tripe from Pat Robertson?

Wouldn't that have actually been something like 3766 years ago and 2,000 years ago on the X-tian calander?

I guess that you have to ask yourself, "Whose calander does the Almighty use"? If He just uses one that comes out of the mail from some not-for-profit organisation then, who knows?

How many threads like this are there going to be? Seems like 3 a day until the fateful "6/6/06" and then people see the world doesn't explode because God doesn't live by man's calender.

Is it punk rock or something to believe that the world is going to end on that day.

06/06/06 sounds nice i dont think the world will end then (my money is on early 2030's) maybe something significant war more than likely it6s the anniversary of D-Day maybe thats what got everyone so excited. But think of it this way every generation has a dooms day thing
