I think dinos are still around on isolated islands and some unexplored parts of africa.
artymoon
I think the chances are extremely slim. Maybe in the Congo though.
AnuKabal
Tribal hunter in the congo alot of the times give descriptions of dinosaur like beasts
artymoon
The Congo is so massive and dense. I'm sure there are species of plants and animals yet to be discovered. But what a task that would be considering the location and accessibility.
AnuKabal
there have been sightings of lizards the size of trucks, in that jungle.

I'd hate to be stranded and lost in that area. no.gif
I remember years ago when my parents took me to church, there was a speaker who visited the church and spoke of this topic, especially with reference to the Congo. He said that the natives spoke of various creatures in the rivers. Creatures that sounded more like dinosaurs than any other animal we knew existed. I think his ultimate point was to infer that dinosaurs existed in the time of man and in the bible.
AnuKabal
That's why when my teachers tell me that that dinosaurs are long gone. I tell them to say that to a person from the congo.

Dude, I think we should go there and do some research.
I'll meet you at the big tree by the river laugh.gif
You know which one I speak of right?
AnuKabal
all the trees are huge

Yes they are.
Even the most experienced explorers and avid biologists know little of the Congo.
It has to do with plan logistics and even political issues within the country.

Here is a good start, thread I started last week

Thank you for the link.

They came to a picture of a Rhino and all the natives agreed it was Mokele-Mbembe

There you go...

Hrrmzz, had not read that report Frogfish, the ones I had read said they had shown them pics of a Saurapod, net's a big place but. I'll try and find the links.
I still reckon, if there is a place that something like this exists, I would imagine this to be the most likely place.
Think the natives claim there are at least 2 types of possible dinosaur and there is the possibility of the Kongamato (possible pterosaur) ?? Might just be a pretty big bat and some wierdass hippo's or Rhino's, still I reckon it is pretty cool that someone is having a go - who knows, perhaps we will get some answers before illegal logging destroys any unknown creatures that could exist in such a harsh environment.
Hate to be there looking for it, foot worms, malaria, and if you do find something, it will likely eat you original.gif

This is a picture of a supposed baby plesiosaur found dead. I think this is one of the best evidence that proves that some dinosaurs might still be alive.

"This animal was discovered by Pete Peterson of Cleveland, Ohio in 1992. He was walking on the beach of Lake Erie, when he found this dead baby creature. Being a taxidermist he took it home and mounted it. It is about three feet long, with four flippers, a tail and pouch like structures on the side of its cheeks. A DNA analysis found no DNA match."

That is a joke right. Otherwise, I would say lay off the drugs. disgust.gif

Found that link

On page 219 of one of my recent field guides, written with Patrick Huyghe, we noted, among several different kinds of alleged “dinosaurs” in Africa, “one animal is called by locals the emela ntouka, or ‘killer of elephants.’ The semi-aquatic Emela-ntouka is described as more rhinoceros-like than the Mokele-mbembe, with a single horn that protrudes from its head.”

From http://www.cryptomundo.com/cryptozoo-news/emela-ntouka/

and had this picture of a carving attached, does look heaps like a Rhino hrbrid though, not much like a Dinosaur.

Hehe, I have seen that as well CryptoRay, pretty funny pic 'ey. There are m ore convincing ones like this one, not sure what this is supposed to be though

Rhinos are known as elephant killers because elephants in must and rhinos fight, normally one of them will die too.

Promted me to read more on Rhino's, apparently they are a semi-aquatic animal by nature - (From Cryptomundo :- In Africa, the range of rhinos is determined, usually, by the waterways.)
which I never would have guessed have only seen them in pictures, documentries and zoo's..

Hrmzzzz, the thot plickens..........

Surely they have better evidence than this to mount a full scale search into the Congo? I bloody hope so!!!!!

*Goes back to heavy searching*
frogfish
Rhinos, especially Asian rhinoes, love water...
psyche101
Hrrmmzzz, this is getting frustrating, although some of the reports I have seen from missionaries, warmen etc, sound very plausible and possible, although, everything seems to be on a creationist website. One creationist website even stated that their good work was not taken seriously because they were creationists.

Well if the shoe fits...............

Still I am going to keep searching, and keeping up with the expedition, I am sure they will find someting, weather it is a dino or not....still, the little boy in all of us hopes they do.....

Dinosaur: "Any of a group (Dinosauria) of extinct chiefly terrestrial carnivorous or herbivorous reptiles of the Mesozoic era."

Well obviously there is no dinosaurs because dinosaurs lived long ago. But I never said there couldn't be 'evolved' forms of dinosaurs living somewhere. The term of dinosaur means what I stated above from Websters - dinosaurs lived long ago, new reptiles and birds live now (I really hope this makes clear sense...).

I got to admit though, that is a really funny pic of that so called plesiosaur laugh.gif!
Guardsman Bass
Unless you count birds (who were spin-offs from the dinosaur legacy), then there are probably not any reptiles that could be defined as even close to dinosaurian. There is simply no confirmed documentation.
evil_E.T
of course dinos still exist, surely someone has heard of dinotopia? tongue.gif grin2.gif tongue.gif

Pterosaurs also seem to have a fair bunch of sightings and witnesses.

Here are a few links, some creationist driven, which worries me, any third part with a hidden agenda (proving the young earth theory) makes them biased in the wrong direction IMO.
However, the eyewitness reports from teachers, police etc, and once again sightings by more than one person at a time. if this does exist I reckon it would explain away mothman, the Jersey Devil and maybe a few other oddities.
They have been allegedly sighted in Papua New Guinea, Africa (known as kongamato or 'overwhelmer of boats' there) America and here in good old Oz. Doubt we have one here, Steve Irwin would have caught it by now yes.gif

Having said that, the only video I have ever seen of a ropen turned out to be a frigatebird. Still, one can hope, they are serching right now in Africa for other dino's...

Siassi Sighting

PNG Sightings

Genisis Park Link

Cameroon Expedition

Probably just a big bat. Worth a look anyways.

I have seen these 3, I had heard that one had been proven a likely fake (the smaller specimen I think it was) but thought the others were not proven either way. Very few pics of these things in relation to the sightings, but it is pretty hard for an amature photographer to shoot anything up in the sky with any clarification at all.

Do you have any links? I have been reading up on these and the Mokele for the last year or so, I am keen to read any info I have not seen before. Net can be a big place....

Depends who you speak to grin2.gif There is no solid evidence either way, however, there is a good story of a Japanese film crew who were filming a documentry (on rainforest I think - could be very wrong here) and spotted a very large creature in Lake Tele in the Congo by Accident. Think I posted a link to that story in the Mokele thread. Who knows what the current expedition in the Cameroons will come back with!

I thought it was interesting the untill about 1900 the Gorilla was considered myth. There's always the Ceolcanth and the Okapi too.

It appears that Pterosaur's exist - attched pic as proof !!

On a scale of 1-100, with 100 being extremely likely, I feel that dinosaurs being still alive is around 27.
