do u think any other animal from folklore will turn out to be real?
Mountain gorillas and giant squid were also considered myths, until their carcasses were picked over by western scientists.
The so-called 'Bloop' cryptid might explain any number of sea creature myths.....Leviathan, for instance.
Dragons are considered mythical to most westerners, but there once were, and still are, large reptiles on the planet. I don't think the classical fire-breathing dragon is even possible, especially one that flew. But prehistoric reptiles certainly influenced the shaping of those myths. We still find giant crocs and snakes in remote areas.
So dragons are not 'real' in that there is an identifiable species we can name, phtograph, and put in a zoo. But we can certainly see why people would believe in them.
