Below are some quotes from a book that I have been reading called "Astral Projection and The Nature of Reality" By John Magnus- Maybe they will help you. It sounds to me that your physical feelings are fear. As far as the loss of sleep, you might consider changing your user name. The Universe and your subconscious mind picks up on these things and creates them for you.
Astral projection is at odds with the ego's idea of physical survival. First, the ego thinks projection is a waste of time, since it does not do much to further our wealth or in any other way increase our physical security. Second, the job of the ego is limited to the physical realm, therfore it does not care about anything outside the physical, including the astral. Thus the ego will object whenever we attempt to shift our awareness away from the physical, as we do in astral projection. It will even try to trick us into shifting our awareness back to the physical.
Your first astral projection will probably go without a hitch, but it will allow the ego to see that astral projection is not in its best interest. Once it has drawn that conclusion, the ego will attempt to sabotage your subsequent attempts at AP. This includes diverting your attention as you attempt to AP, scaring you when you successfully project, surpressing your memories of the projection after you return to your body, and advocating the theory that "it must have been just a dream"
Exercise: In the Absence of fear
1. When you wake up tomorrow, tie a short thread around one of your fingers like a ring.
2. Tell yourself: "Each time I look at this ring, I will feel no fear or worry."
3. Go about your day.
4. Every time you see the ring, remember your pledge. Release any fear or worries you may have at the moment.
5. At the end of the day, evaluate whether the absence of fear and worry made your day easier or put you at greater risk at harm. (What you have been doing throughout the day is consciously interrupting a subconscious process: the ego' control mechanism by fear. In other words, you have nipped the ego's takeover in the bud.)
6. Ask yourself: "Did this absence of fear and worry threaten my future security or endanger me in any way?" Most likely, you will find that the absence of fear gave you clarity of thought, which helped you see more opportunities around you. Seeing those oppurtuities increases your chances for future security. Now we see that the ego is defeating its own purpose by not allowing you to take advantage of the opportunities. With that realization, the ego automatically transforms to work for you instead of against you.
I always use my pains and fears, when in Dreamscape, most like to call it astral projection, and such dreamscaping, but to most that I know, we came up iwth Dreamscape, since it's sort of like that. I figure dreaming is different most, depending on how like minded those people are, and how will they can succumb or overcome a certain fear. Most people just call them fears, I like to refer my fears as demons, since that is the case interpretation of most fears around the world.
My worst fears: the dark, birds, and big houses, no idea why big houses, something from childhood I tended to forcefully forget, then we got people who actually try and forget their fears, or push them away, I hate to say it, that's sort of a bad idea when it comes to astral/dreamscaping projections. It's best to face that which frightens you head on, it'll make you different in the end, like washing off a certain dirt can make you a little bit cleaner then normal.
As for falling, that's always, as dying dreams, that's an interesting one too, I guess, only had that happen twice before, haven't since I don't run from my fears, not good for ya in the longer run.
My suggestion to anyone who has fears at all, should just face them, I mean I sleep in a big house, that I have, and in the dark no less, and as for birds, sort of still hate the buggers. It makes you feel a sense of bettering yourself, and gives you an edge when asleep at night, fear is the mind killer, let the fear pass through you.
Like that, dreams have many levels, and many a doors to go through, even though most of the time those certain doors are locked, try opening them, there is no door in the dream world that should never be opened, or that case why would it even be there. I open new doors to mysterious dreams, none my own every night, doors that would seldomly be locked for pretty much everyone else. To me, it's like they just open for me, and it's as if they were never locked in the first place, some doors however, no one should open, and their there, for a purpose, to let you know they are there not to be opened, as an acknowledgement of them. These doors for me, are white, with black trimming, and have no handles on them, I try and project them saying on it, keep out workers fixing problem.
Like dreams, there are many doors, and many portals to different aspects of dreams, for every portal there's also gateways to cross, sometimes it's not best to even acknowledge the gateways, since there's always a 99% chance somone is camping out there watching for idiots to go by. To latch on and do sort of mindful piggy back, and that's when it hits, you got's someone's in your's mind buddy. Heh cool, I go through them anyway.
Go your own way in peace
