yes well I would like to know how you know that I'm not 21 years old. Because I'm 21 years old.

My kid sister is 18 and sometimes acts and speaks like she was 14-15 years old.You reminde me of her with your ..

well you know there's still time to stick up for me you know. At least I think there is.

You know what maybe I should just leave this thread right now. I can see that nobody is giving any thought to what I have to say. I can also see that I'm not wanted here at all.

i don't really care

And how is this for a reality check.

What scares you?

1. being abducted by aliens(unlikly though that that would happen. but just the same i'm scared of it)

2. death

3. being raped

Dont get me wrong here Mac,I love my sister and, well,I guess I love you to. laugh.gif

hi all. just read this article myself today. And I was more than a little disappointed at the headline "Earth like Planet". Geez, this planet sure does not seem very earth like to me. I am also tired of them saying they have found a planet, and then really it is just a large asteroidal type object. I think they need to redefine their idea of earth like, an reconsider what they call a planet. Anyways, sorry it just really bugged me. Also if you take the time to read the article, you may see what I'm talkin about. Also the article clearly says it is located n Sagittarius.
QUOTE
The new planet, designated OGLE-2005-BLG-390Lb, is the smallest and the coldest planet yet discovered beyond the solar system. It orbits a star towards the centre of the Milky Way galaxy located 20,000 light years away in the constellation Sagittarius
.Id like to think that there may be other planets with life out there. But the truth is we have absolutely no proof of that, and are yet a very long ways off from finding it.

you know what I should PM my ID to you. The part where it gives out my birthday including the year. Will do that first thing in the morning if I remember. And please don't make fun of me or else I'll have to report you to a mod.

this is absolutely exciting!!!! w00t.gif now maybe SETI will actually have a place to scan for any form of ordered EM fields eminating from those newly found solar systems thumbsup.gif

Mckenna and Hazzard, back on topic please.

Lets not ruin this thread with a personal arguement about something completely unrelated to the subject matter.
Uversa
I think, like 90% of all the posts on this forum, it has already been ruined.

Mckenna, this is not a little playground argument where you must try and prove your age and whine about being picked on and then do the 'poor me' and leave rubbish, people are trying to have a decent debate and all you can do is moan like a little child.

QUOTE
I mean yes we know that that's where the Pleiadjerns live.

Because for some reason you failed to answer it when Hazzard asked you, Im also interested in understanding how you know that?

Do you actually have any logic and reasoning behind what you say? Im all for a little faith and open mindness - but blind babble and wishful thinking gets you nowhere, but hey - please prove me wrong and answer my question

Uversa, and Haz...I think you both know what the answer to your question is going to be... Stop trying to prove a point (it isn't gonna boost your ego that much, is it?), she doesn't have proof... I know it, and you know it, so please, move on... hmm.gif

I have always believed that there is life on other planets. With the billions of galaxies and endless stars. Whether it is sentient life is of course is a whole different ball game. But it is interesting to find a planet believed to be capable of supporting life in our very own Milky Way!
*EnIgMa*
That was cool ph34r.gif
Are there any other planets that we know of that are (possibly) capable of harboring life??
I know there's a possibility on every planet, but I mean 'intelligent' life
joc
What I find interesting is the distance....20,000 light years. That is so inconceivably far away!
The distances between stars is what always leads me to the conclusion that we will never, ever, ever, ever find another life force in the cosmos. We 'think' a planet in our own solar system is a certain way and then we send probes there and find things much differently than we had thought. And now we have a planet not millions of miles away...but 180,000 Trillion miles away. Think about it. The distance light travels in one year is approx. 6 trillion miles.
Unfathomable.
ai_guardian
I too find it interesting but somewhat exaggerated. I mean 'earth-like', WTF, the only thing it has in common with earth is that it is solid! (ie. not gaseous).

It is good that we can now find planets around other stars (using gravitational lensing) and although as I mentioned it is not possible/sensible to send probes due to our rather primitive technology and vast distances I cling onto a hope that one day we can come up with technology that will allow us to peek at these planets with the resolution analogous to a satellite peeking at the surface of our planet. We're very far from this as at the moment we detect these planets indirectly I believe.

SETI is our best bet at detecting other life (possibly at the same stage of technology development as us ie. EM wave communication). However, I believe that IF there is other more advanced races they would (having devised & tested a 'Theory of Everything') be using a form of communication that we have not yet discovered. In this case SETI in its current form would be useless in detecting this 'advanced' race communication.

Why is it that we think that Aliens have to live with water, warm temperatures and the useful ozone layers needed? Maybe aliens don't need the things we do. The planet can be big, small, hot, cold or it can even be swallowed up in rocks or water. It doesn't matter. Aliens can be anywhere and they can inhabit any type of ecosystem they want or have become accostumed to. Just my thoughts. Pretty good news none the less

So to sum it up, even if we (or NASA) wanted to send a 'rocket' there we just don't have the technology or ability to send or keep track of such a 'rocket'. At present technology it would take literally hundreds of thousands or even millions of years for such a rocket to make it there - not to mention coming back OR sending a signal which if say the star system is 100 light years away would take 100 years to reach us. Imagine receiving a signal from the rocket (it has arrived) now we send a signal to tell it to come back - 200 years has passed just from the time it arrived. It is just not viable or possible or sensible to embark on such projects with present technology. Just no way.

Cheers thumbsup.gif

two points for this IMO -

Apologies for the likeliness that I get the names wrong, but under the ice sheets of the moon Europa it is believed there could be life.
Probes have been sent farther than this distance (i believe), and it is certainly possible to study this moon, however.... The concern is that any probe entering the atmosphere would be contaminated, and probably destroy life there.
Is it possible to produce a completely sterile probe? A completely sterile hospital would be my first objective!

Do I believe in intelligent life beyond Earth? I guess so, but you have to be open minded.
A lot of people (probably including myself) believe that a civilisation existed on Earth prior to ours.
How amusing would it be if an old Earth Civilisation sent a probe to study a far of planet before their demise.
In time that past from this event, sattelites in space crashed to Earth, so no record out there, BUT the probe sent to the depths of space arrives and sends a signal....

This signal arrives at Earth, the science world is in excitement that we have made contact with an alien race, but it was our prior civilisation.
Science is directed at contacting this new alien race, so all funding and time is used to eventually (should we be sucessful) prove that there was a advanced civilisation on Earth.

I'm 21 years old. So please stop your BS. sleep.gif

do you want me to put my ID up to prove it. I can.

I hate it when people think I'm younger then I actually am. It's very hurtful. sad.gif

I still remember a Student card ID my friends and I had when we were 15, which proved we were 18, and thus allowed us in pubs.

I guess I could get a variety of these cards to prove my age too original.gif

It should not be hurtful that people reckon you are younger..... Wish people thought I was younger..... Just wait until you`re in your 30s and people reckon you`re 40. More fuss kicked up there....

To anyone else reading..... Please assume that McKenna is at least 16, single and very fit..... wub.gif works for me original.gif grin2.gif original.gif

what I find interesting in ufology; star systems such as vega, altair, aquila, antares, the pleiades, all are talked about as harboring life. yet mainstream science never talks about exploring these certain star systems...its always mars or pluto some dead rock. have they been warned off from studying these star systems? ph34r.gif or is it just to far for our horse and buggy technology? cool.gif

Yes, the full distances from even the Suns closest neighboring stars is beyond our comprehension and certainly our technology. Einstein's theory made simple: Any craft made to achieve Light Speed would have to have the mass of the WHOLE UNIVERSE once it made Light Speed. We may possibly be able to communicate with other inhabitants via laser-lights. I think we will find time-warp/wormholes are the only way to traverse the Galaxy, let alone the Universe....

Technically, at light speed the craft's mass would be infinite, thus requiring an infinite amount of energy to accelerate it beyond the speed of light. Thus >C travel is impossible by our current understanding of physics.

Our technology is way beyond what most people would even understand, the thing is, it's all locked up in government black projects, and probably will not come out for another fifty years...

I've thought that too.. but I figure it won't be out for at LEAST another 100 years. Either way, 50 or 100 years, I won't be alive to hear or see it.

Ya life does exsist elsewhere. Problem is, it may not be familiar life as we know it.
Spock was right, in the star trek series. So was Kirk. We do not know what exsists other than what we know. Other life may be very different than ours, plants and animals. We are at the edge of knowing, but just don;t have that final clue. wacko.gif

Umm... there is no upward in space... Telescopes point to the sky, thats simply all. Would you have them point down at the ground?

I too also strongly believe that our technology is far more advanced than the general public has been made out to believe. The government has spent well over 1.1 trillion dollars on top secret black budget projects. However, in a way free energy and anti-gravity propulsion is better kept under wraps until humanity changes its ways. These amazing advancements would be great assets at first but in the end would do more harm than good to both the environment and to society. I believe that before this technology is divulged to the public we need to eliminate all forms of government in the world and unite together to form one official government and some how eliminate warfare, violence, drugs, lies and all that is bad in this world and undergo an unbiased pursuit of science that has yet to be officially attempted by the majority of todays scientists. Until that happens, we are going to have to settle with this mediocre gradual technological improvement despite having the potential to be so much more advanced.....

Imagine for a moment if you will, a time where the entire planet is united under one government system in which crimes are a very rare occurrence and lies are a thing of the past. A time where space exploration is at its peak and setting up living quarters on other planets and moons is fact not fiction. A time where interaction with a variety of extraterrestrial civilizations is a fairly common occurrence. A time in which family's can go on vacations to places far more exotic than any tropical islands on earth, instead visit exotic islands in other solar systems within other galaxies entirely. Imagine a time in which the weather is gauranteed and controlled so you know exactly when it is going to rain and when it is going to be sunny. A time where world hunger is not longer an issue. A time where illness and disease is nonexistent and the average life expectancy is well over 100 years maybe even upwards of 500 or more! This may sound like some crazy fairy tale story but it is in fact a possible future if only humanity could change its current life style entirely which doesn't appear to be a feasible reality for the near future unfortunately. In order for this subjective reality to become objective reality we as human beings must change our current way of life entirely and if we don't then we are setting ourselves up for failure and hardship in the not so distant future which will lead to our inevitable demise. One thing is certain, at our current progress this idea just reads like science fiction and if by chance it ever does happen, it wont be happening anytime soon, which is very disappointing to say the least.....

Just something to think about.....
Childe_of_Malkav
I'm sure this find will fall into the deep cracks and be forgotten about like all the other "close to Earth" finds, that is until we find an ant hill of some life on another planet.
