I have a border collie/heeler mix that can jump our 6' wood fence w/o touching it. Sucks when loose dogs are running around outside of the fence cause she is extremely protective. I don't know how many times I have had to tear her off another dog cause she jumped the fence to go attack them. Suprisingly she has never offered to bite any family or friends. My 2 year old can jump on her, pinch her, kick her, hit her, pull her hair, anything you can think of, and she just lays there and licks my little girl.

O' my goodness, bless your heart. The one before him, I had seven years before he died. They live a long time if taken care of and 9 years is great for a rabbit- she must have been loved.

Loved her tons, she didn't get to live in the house though :\ mother wouldn't allow it. But during her last months I kept her in the house so she would saty cool ( it was 114 degrees+ outside). I am glad I didn't hear her dying scream. She was one of those huge rex rabbits <3

Rabbits, anyone?
We did have rabbits when we were kids, and ducks, and one chicken that for some reason my Mom let us keep in the house for a couple weeks before we put it out with the rest of the chickens. I remember the rabits being friendly. The ducks were too but we would handle them when they were young. We used to swim with them in a horse trough when we were really little. Until the day we decided the water was getting dirty so we would clean it out. We never swam in that trough again, the layer of nasty on the bottom, I'll stop there...

ROFLAMO... that is so great!!! I can relate to that, chicken and all... even swimming with the duck part too- once, my dad found a rooster with one leg around the dumpsters.. he brought it home, called that thing "hobo" and hobo had spur three inches long on that one leg I remember & hated us children.. he kept that thing on his lap while he watched T.V.. and he knew while watching T.V with hobo he got his peace at the end of the day....Hobo stayed right there on his lap all strutted looking like he owned the place... My dad had him many years..
I've loved both my rabbits.. and never had too much of a problem with their attitudes (knock on wood). So far this one I have now is as gentle as the first one I had.. sure need to fix him quick tho.'

i have 2 dogs , 2 jack russels
one boy his name is Maximus
and one female named Gracy
Max you can talk to like a human, like when he is outside he would walk by the road and all i have to say is " hey man get away from the road" and he will listen to ya, and he trys to talk to you, he makes grunts growls and he even whistles.
also he plays CPU games and does pretty well given that he doesnt have thumbs
my other dog gracy is like the Hen mother of my house, when your sad she will walk up slowly and try to cheer you up. She also is very protective of me and my mom, when my moms boyfriend got drunk and started screaming at her my dog litraly jumped off the couch and bit him on the shoulder. She also listens to every word i say when i talk to her
i have had a few pets and these 2 dogs are the most strangest pets i have ever had

Hawkmason... trust me, they're strange... they're... terriers. hahah
I grew up with a Wire Hair Fox Terrier (she lived to be 21 years old!) She was a hoot but hated any paper boys, I think I recall my folks buying our paper boy new pants a few times. She also would have hissy fits on occasion and would do really strange but oddly smart things like chewing off every knob in the house... radio knobs, cabinet knobs, knobs off the little wooden childrens puzzles... she was a real funny little beast.
Terriers are funny, they seem completely spazzy sometimes, but they're actually really smart. Too smart for their own good actually.

Currently, I have a fat black tom cat.
In years past, though, I catered to the entire animal kingdom.
Squirrels, raccoons, gerbils, hamsters, cats, dogs, cockatiels, parakeets, fish, spiders (tarantulas, black widows, wolf spiders, jumping spiders, to name but a few), snakes, hermit crabs, frogs and toads...
If I had a genetics lab, I'd be MAKING exotic pets.

lol poor paper boys, Max is strange he doesnt attack anything but bugs, people walk by my house all the time and he just smiles (his lips get caught on his teeth) and even cats he licks them he would see one under the car walk up and clean it
yea they are too smart for their own good, max and Gracy know how to open doors /facepalm i would be in the shower and i hear the door knob turn and a huge plop as he hits the ground and im like "uhh Mr Max could i get some privacy" and he would bark and jump in

Oh, I just saw above someone was talking about swimming with ducks. Yes, I've had ducks (last year) they died

but they did used to swim in the pool with us last summer. That is highly amusing to children.
I've spent my whole life not liking dogs but I am warming up to the idea, the older I get. I prefer the independent nature of cats, dogs are a turn-off because of their constant need for attention and being in your face drooling at you. I need lots of ^me-time^, I don't know if I would appreciate never being left alone. But I appreciate social contact a lot more than I used to, and the more involved relationship you can have with a dog, I might be ready for in a year or two.
I think it's important to only get animals that are compatible with you, and you really should understand what their needs are. Dogs need training, and lots of time and understanding, so I don't want to jump into it now, because I want to make sure if I get one that I am able to commit to it and take care of it the way it needs to be taken care of.
I like bulldogs, but I haven't learned enough about them to know if they are compatible with my household yet.
I also like Weimeraners.

Despite old hobo, chicken is heavy on the menu here :} We had some geese... good grief-- that was a mistake, those things were just mean & a billy goat (abraham) who would chase you down intending you buck you in the rear... So, I've never gotten another goose, nor a goat, because of these issues. I almost forgot about this. It wasn't a pet , but almost became one.
Me and my dog Mr. Weederman ( who has since passed away. a carin terrier - think Toto ) were out for a walk and near this building in Downtown Detroit he started furiously sniffing. I saw what I thought was a pidgen at first laying on the ground next to brick thinking it must have flown into it. I picked it up and found it wasn't a pidgen. I thought it was a hawk. I took it home , fed it raw chicken ( wore leather glovess !) and decided to call the state of Michigan who put me in touch with a handler/rehab person.
they came out a few days later and told me I had a young peregrine falcon and if they couldn't rehab it I would be allowed to keep it. Well they got it well and set it free. Which is really where it belongs. It's against the law to have them w/o permission. Also , they have some scary eyes !!!!!!! and poop like a shotgun going off !

That's really interesting that they would tell you you could keep it if it couldn't be rehabed. Generally in order to keep a raptor you have to have a
Federal Hawking License.
I used to raise tropical birds (lots of them) and looked briefly into getting a licence but it was more responsibility than I was willing to take on. Its a cool sport. I saw someone post here on UM that they had a Hawking license. Since I forwent the license, I ended up training some
Patagonian Conures to perform some of the same types of hawking tricks like retrieving. They're actually pretty good at it, but they don't really hunt, they don't have the natural instincts for it.

The rats and the fish are the only ones who live in the house. I let the chi mix in at night to sleep and the others if it gets really cold dogs and cats only.
When the raccoon was young she stayed in the house but when she got old enough to open cabinets and the refrigerator it was time to go outside.
I built her a 12ftx12ft enclosure thats awsome she has ramps, walkways, a ladder, a swing (12 in.x24in. piece of pvc pipe suspended from the ceiling) where she spends most of her time. She also has a really nice house she sleeps in, a swimming pool I haft to change daily.
She uses a litter box which is located inside of an igloo dog house for her privacy.
She is very tame, very loving and super smart.
She is the greatest pet I have ever had.
Once I came home home from work and her cage was standing wide open (I suspect the neighbors kid) she was nowhere to be found. I was very upset as you could imagine
I was out searching daily, about two weeks went by and I heard something on the screen door of course I figured it was one of the cats.
I opened the door and there was Daisy standing on her hind feet reaching out to me.
I went down on my knees and she ran into my arms.
I hugged and kissed her crying like crazy.

Since you brought it up I have to make a comment about something relevant to that, and a concern, imo -----I saw an episode of Cops (in Florida) where a small child was playing in a garage and came up on a friggin Gaboon Viber hiding behind a barrel. The boy was poking around it with a stick.. you can imagine. If not aware these are one of the most deadliest vipers in the world known to man-- Well, some one called the authorities & boy wasn't bitten...These snakes do not belong in this environment/habitat naturally no more than cobras do. Later, it was found out someone bought the thing off the net for little or nothing and decided they couldn't handle it no more and let it go free....This is unnerving.

Have a cat that acts like a dog if that counts? She hunts stoats and weasels and stuff, but when she's in the house she's such a sook. She eats macaroni cheese, potatoes, quiche, you name it. Of course we don't regularly feed her these things, it's just she mooches so bad while we're at the table, and so we'll sometimes put a wee bit down to her or in her dish, and she'll more often than not yum it up and look back up at us for more... Plus you can tell her to go out for the toilet at night, and she'll go to the door. Oh and she's NEVER put her claws out maliciously. She just digs them in when she's happy...

My vet thought it was weird but helped me do the DNA typing... he typed out 40% gray wolf. His mother was apparently the wolf and his father the Pom-- probably the half baked result of artificail Insemination..
To describe Lakota, He's around 15 inches tall, around 20 pounds and he's black and white with gold/orange eyes. His mate Lakita was rumored to be half fox-- but I never had her typed out and the pups she and Lakota produced didn't live more than a few hours. The vet said it was incompatibility of genes or something like that. Dunno-- Lacy and Cheyenne are just normal white toy poms...

I had a Nile Crocodile for over 10 years when I lived in Europe, and among my "pet rocks" (fossils) I have an over four foot long skull of a marine crocodile that was probably between 20 and 30 feet long.
OH MY GOD, I am so jealous, monitors of all species are absolutely beautiful. If I wasn't so damned paranoid about being away from civilization I'd definitely live in a more isolated area that would allow for raising large reptiles. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of cost does the caretaking of these pets require?

The cost isnt as expensive as owning a dog. Now monitors are interesting pets to say the least and they sure look cool but Ive had the pleasure of owning three of them two Savanna's and one crocodile monitor and they were a handfull when compaired to snakes the monitors in most cases are pretty much a show pet kind of like goldfish they are cool to look at but they usually dont take to human contact very well. I would suggest a snake to start with and after a while if you still feel the need to own a monitor then by all means give it a shot but chances are if your not in love with the species as a whole you will not be happy with them as a pet

I never had an ''unusual'' pet before, except for an occasional wacky kitty
I did want a tarantula once, but never got around to getting one.

I have an exotic pet - not sure if that qualifies as unusual. Her name is Mya and she is a Florida Panther.

Her she is with her handler:
