Does anyone else remember this great series? I would watch and freak, I loved the theme music and all the bumbling Kolchak did along the way. Kind of like Columbo. Not the coolest guy, but always go to the bottom of it all. I watch it on Sci Fi sometimes in the midday and it still creeps you out, the music and all. Darren McGaven was the perfect actor.

So, no one digs clumsy, bumbling mystery hunters huh? Just one of you could of said something. Even if it was bad or rude. Jeez, dont let it sit at 0 posts forever. SOMEONE please take pity, dont you remember this show? Are you all in your twenties???

I loved it. Never missed an episode. Too bad ABC didn't give the remake a chance to find an audience. The remake episodes were just starting to capture that noir essence when it got yanked.

Stuart Townsend played the "new" Kolchak. The remake episodes were written, produced and directed by a couple of X-Files people. For more and much better info than I can provide, go to http://www.imdb.com ....

I've not seen the remake, but loves the original. Sad news today is that Darren McGaven died at 83. sad.gif

the remake was horrible; it had none of the humor or charm of the original 'Kolchak:The Night Stalker'. Not to diminish the rest of Mr. McGavin's career, but in my opinion, Carl Kolchak was his greatest and probably best-remembered role (nevermind 'A Christmas Story'). Simon Oakland who played Tony Vincenzo was great too; the way the two actors interacted was brilliant, and their scenes together often stole the show. It was camp, but creepy, and the cult of Kolchak is huge. It's available on DVD, but since it's a UNIVERSAL product, there are technical flaws in the discs themselves (look at the reviews on Amazon for more details), which is a shame because this show is an all-time classic, and Carl Kolchak should be the working model for any investigative reporter out there today. God bless Darren McGavin.

No they didn't and putting it opposite CSI was a kiss of deathnow if they had premiered it before Monday Night Football, ratings would have soared
and they never gave Blind Justice a chance either. I thought Ron Eldard was excellent. I know how the man felt. I had to retire from the state police due to an injury.

I agree. Without the humor it is flat.

I love the original... in fact, I just bought the first season of Kolchak off of ebay.... grin2.gif

I was not crazy about the remake, but they did not give the writers a chance to improve either.

Some of my other favs are:

Original Twilight Zone.
Night Gallery (totally creeps me out!)

Aghhh... there was another weekly series from back then as well and I can't think of the name! But, it was really good..... There is waaay too much sex and violence on the new shows for me. disgust.gif It takes away from the stories..... Except, I have to say that Supernatural is not too bad.

The Nightstalker remake was killer!
I really liked it... well, the first few episodes anyway.

They lost... something after the 4-5 ep. aired. Oh well.
They are on SciFi now, right?

Night Stalker was definitely one of my favorite shows growing up. It was creepy but comical at the same time. One Night Stalker episode was filmed here in Seattle; the underground city of Seattle to be more exact.

One of my best episodes is when Kolchak had to venture to the junk yard to kill a mummy that terrorized the local citizens. In order to kill the mummy, Kolchak had to pour salt in the mouth of the mummy while it slept; and sew his lips together. However, while in the process of doing this tasks the mummy woke up. Shocked by the mummy's sudden awakening, Kolchak immediately hauled a$$ with the mummy in hot pursuit. Freakin hilarious!

Excellent show! Maybe I will go to Suncoast & purchase that old series. That would be great to see all the episodes. Unfortunately, my schedule doesn't permit me to sit at home & watch it midday!

Loved the original series...I remember begging my parents to let me stay up and watch it when I was younger. Never got a chance to watch the remake; kept forgetting when it was on. laugh.gif I often watch the reruns on SciFi channel.

You really did not miss much, T.V. nowadays is just filler..... They put bubble-headed "pretty" people in place of the originals..... Not much in the way of characters...

Excuse my nit picking, but it wasn't a mummy, it was a zombie (in fact, that was the name of the episode). However, I agree, that's one of my favorite episodes as well. original.gif

I have the entire series on DVD, as well as all the movies, and I watch them from time to time.
