Eagle eyed users of the satellite imaging service Google Earth have spotted what appears to be a car hovering above the ground in a suburban Perth car park. The photo is of a car park just off Honour Avenue at Point Walter in the affluent south western suburb of Bicton. The spot is a popular picnic location on the banks of the Swan River.A number of cars are shown in parking bays and the vehicle in question appears to hovering above the ground nearby, its shadow clearly visible beneath.Google Earth images are mostly taken by satellites - and sometimes by aircraft - within the past three years and there are no "live" images on the site. The intriguing image was reported last week by the British IT news website, The Register. One the the website's readers subsequently visited the very spot and sent in photos showing that there were no unusual structures there that could explain the phenomenon.Other sceptical readers wrote in insisting the image was an optical illusion and was either a bus shelter, a pergola, a hole in the ground.
One said it was obviously "Harry Potter and his friends on vacation".Google Earth, launched last year, allows users to zoom across the planet and drill down to a height of about 300 metres. The program also has "tilt" function to give a side or angled view of an area or object.Cars and boats are clearly visible at this level and in some areas, where even higher definition images are available, people can be seen. The Google service has spawned a group of devoted followers who scour the satellite images for strange sightings. Users in the past have spotted a Stealth bomber parked on a runway in California, commercial planes in mid-flight and an image of what appears to be a ship on its side in a river estuary in Scotland.

I'm sorry but that looks nothing like a car. And the shadow fits almost perfect with the shape of the white car. I don't know what to think. Cars can't fly, but the "it's a black car" comment doesn't seem likley to me. Might be something else?
The list was as so:
# A hoax
# Two cars parked next to each other
# Hole in the ground
# Trailer
# Bus shelter
# Water tower
# Tent
# Car on a pole
I think they need to add.
# Flying car. How? We don't know.
I'm way too open minded to exclude anything like that. I think anything is possible. But I'm a skeptic towards this picture. Although I won't exclude the possability.

smh.com.authe ship they talk about at the end, you can apparently see its hull from greenock, the shp just tilted all the way over

i dont think its another car next to it i think someones just enhanced the cars original shadow to make have more depth , giving the car a hovering apperance

I do not think it's a black car. You can see a couple other black/dark cars parked in the lot area, and you can tell they are cars. There are slight highlighting showing dimension to the cars.
The black thing next to the white car appears to be flat without any depth/dimension.
Also notice that in the other lot area with all the cars, each car has a very slight hint of shadow coming from underneath them.
This white car doesn't have any ground shadow except the mysterious black thing next to it.
I am not saying it's definitely a floating car, but I do not believe it's a black car parked next to the white car. Maybe I am wrong, but I am just going by what I see in the pic.
It could also be photoshopped of course. Who knows.
Maybe it is a floating car
But i really cannot see it being a black car. Its a flat black rectangle to me.

If you look closely you can see what may be legs on the two nearest corners. I'm going to guess it's some sort of tent or temporary awning (striped or with a diamond design on top that gives the illusion of a car with front and rear windows). Perhaps someone was selling popcorn or lemonade from a table there that day and had an awning up to keep the sun off?

Just seems like an optical illusion that's created by the shadow.

But a shadow of what? If the car is on the ground, there's no way that's the car's shadow.
DeathBringer
Feb 1 2006, 12:57 AM
My guess is it's an awning or erect structure. You can see the poles that hold it up if you look close enough

A green striped tent maybe. I live in around there and it does look like someone might have been selling something. Then again, a lot of lovin goes on in cars at Point Walter

that could have something to do with it

That is most definitely a car and the black thing next to it is definitely its shadow.
If you observe the shadows of the trees in the picture carefully, you will observe that the black thing adjacent to the car is exactly at the location where the car's shadow is expected to be. The alignment is perfect.
Conclusion: A car on a pole...probably up for repairs. Surely not a flying car lol.

I think it is one of those water holders/ towers

i dont no wat they are called anyway i dont think that it is a car next to it because it dosent have any windows etc i think that it is mostly a trick of the picture

it could even be a parked car with a odd shadow

If I'd known about this last time I went to Perth, I would've checked it out

EDIT: I just remembered this- On the way from Perth to where I live, there was a crashed car high up in a tree. It had been out there by the police as a reminder not to drink and drive, etc. Maybe this is the same kind of thing?

I agree. I was thinking... it doesn't look like any of the other cars on the carpark. It is too symmetrical and elongated.
Perhaps it is a bus shelter.

But seriosly. It
is some type of container raised above the ground.
The more I look at it, the more it looks like a resistor on some mammoth PC board.

it may be mr potter on his holiday it mite be chitty chitty bang bang. and id love it to be a flying car and i honestly hope it is. however i ask myself why there would be 1 single lonely car parked NEXT to a rather large carpark instead of in it unless it was sum sort of tent or canvass for the little picnickers. or maybe its aliens trying to hide under a black blanket while the google satalitte blows past. personaly i vote for the flying car!!

I really really want a flying car too, but I find myself having to agree with the suggestion that it's two cars parked next to each other. There is another black car in the picture and it looks similar to the "shadow" of the white car.

Zoom up on the object you will see that it is not a car.

Look at the red marks i have made the smaller one is next to the object and the larger one is the shape of the object if you zoom on it.

Obvously some people do, you closed a thread down on the ancient mysteries forum because it was old. obvously some newcomers take the time to search a topic they are intrested in, insted of just starting a new thread on it,

It's a no win situation really when you think about it. If someone starts a new thread some will point out a thread is already on that subject and direct them too it. Then when someone posts on a old thread they get asked why are they posting on a old thread lol

As long as it is an active thread, you will get pointed to it. If something hasn't been posted in for eight months, you can pretty much say it isn't an active thread. Feel free, at that point, to start up a new one.
And of course, remember that you always have the option of contacting a mod and asking them to re-open the thread. If you have a good reason, it will be considered.
On that subject, thread closed.
