Just starting a thread, discussing the reality behind the swiss national hero William (wilhelm) Tell. (studying him is a personal interest of myself, and this topic won't fit in any other forum lol)
Numerous sites exist some heavily biased in favour of his existence, others, base their opinions on the less than stellar levels of archeological evidence to support his existence. Besides his three days of noted existence, starting on the eighteenth of november in 1307, and ending with the assassination of the tyrant Gessler, the hero was never heard from before or after.
I am a logical fellow, as anyone who knows me can attest, however, I feel that it is quite possible for this character to have existed. while it is true he literally fades into and from existence over a three day span, this is easily countered with the facts that prior to his three days of fame, he was a hunter/woodsman, living out of town and as he would have needed very little in the manner of supplies, the town would have very little contact with him. Moreover, following his misadventures, Tell would have left the village again, his business complete, and moved on, explaining his vanishing act. Just my opinion of course, I started this thread to discuss and share others opinions as well. thumbsup.gif
