Hi all, I've been searching for someone with the same problem as me. I always feel that I'm being watched by someone. It's usually tolerable, but when I watch a movie like Emily Rose or The Ring, I can't sleep well for about a week. I have rituals that I have to follow before I can sleep every night. I am on meds, but this feeling hasn't budged at all. I'd love your opinions.

Rituals? Do you mind me asking what your doctor diagnosed you with?
I'm only asking because you mentioned meds (and I'm not trying to be rude, just curious). original.gif

Rituals?

Probably making sure the closet door is shut is one. And I'm not trying to be funny. My ex-boyfriend, 34 yrs old, would not go to sleep unless it was shut.

Honestly, I've had the feeling that someone is watching me since I was about four years old. But then I grew up in a very religious Christian home where I was reminded that "God was watching me."
I used to have the same problem:not being able to sleep for a while after seeing a particularly scary movie. How I solved that? I stopped watching them so much. Yeah, I wanted to watch it, and yeah, my friends made fun of me. But at least I was able to sleep.

I'm assuming that you're on anti-anxiety meds? If so how long have you been on them? If not very long give it some time. Of course, if after a while, it doesn't seem to be helping, let your doctor know and hopefully find something else that can help you.

I can see that happening. It's not too uncommon-rituals. Some of them, however, are associated with OCD.

Ah, yes.
I don't know why that didn't occur to me. blink.gif

I was originally diagnosed with OCD. Blkadr, have you told your doctor about this feeling of being watched? Maybe all you need is some slightly different meds and it will clear up. I say this because before I was medicated this was a major symptom of my problems. Now the medication is correct it never happens at all. Go back to your doctor and have a chat thumbsup.gif

Forgot to add... I'd give the spook films a miss for a bit. Just until things straighten out. No sense in scaring yourself silly on purpose original.gif

Yes, I do have OCD and I'm being treated for it. Well done! yes.gif

The thing is, I always feel that someone's there, even when I'm not watching a scary movie. The feeling never ever leaves. I was afraid to look in the mirror for years because I was afraid whatever was watching me would be behind me. I just wonder if those impulses are in my mind or if there's something else going on there... I don't know.

Oh and I never left my closet door open when I was little! wink2.gif

Take a look there.

I as not a medical proffesional would have to say to you that it is all in your mind, but what help does that do right. If you feel these emotions of being watched IE paranoia try to think of something totally different/ go make something to eat, do chores around the house keep yourself busy.

When I was younger I had a thing about keeping my shoes on. I always thought I might need to run, from what I never knew, today I do and it's nothing. I would say go back to your doctor and tell him/she flat out what you are feeling no holds bard.

Hope things improve for ya take care.

The problem with OCD is that they know (for the most part) that it is just in their minds, but if they do not do certain rituals (compulsions) they can get extreme anxiety. Therein lies the problem in my opinion.

blkadr, good luck with everything. thumbsup.gif

I used to feel that way (i was scared to even close my eyes in the shower) but i desided that if someone was really after me i would already be dead and once you try and be positve about the feeling tha someone is with you( that sounds bizzare) the feeling of scaredness will turn possitve grin2.gif
