seems many people were excited when the FOIA came out
but im not so sure it works
you request info
but alot of the info you get is blacked our (due to national security they say)
and who's to say the info you get is all they have ?
they hold all the cards here
if they send you info, or even just tell you they dont have any, who are you going to complain to ?
how could you even complain ?
you wouldnt know one way or the other if it was all they knew

So, what do you want released? Who do you want it released to? Sorry, but there are issues that trump personal knowledge.
Let's say you submit a FOIA request for Fort Knox and the gold reserve. Do you REALLY expect to get schematics on the security system? Even if they gave them to you, should YOU be bound to keep the info to yourself?
Let's try to keep your outlook spread out farther than just as far as you can reach, try looking at others' needs and responsibilities.
the FOIA is more designed for those in power to get as much information on us as legaly as possibly whilst not contravening the data protection act, whcihs gets violated on regular occasions anyway.

Personally, I think the FOIA is just meant to satisfy the people who havent throught it through enough. I dont think a simple FOIA request would get you any info that the government wants to hide.

Top secret and classified information is exempt from the FOIA.

Exactly what I mean. The FOIA is no more useful to answer some of the major questions than going to the library is.

so basically you agree, as i do, the FOIA is just a ruse
possibly set up to pacify the masses
but ultimately falling way short
i remember a case involving a sick worker from area 51
he took his bosses to court to be held accountable for his apparent work related illness
the judge told the area 51 people to provide papers showing what went on there to determine if it caused the illness
they said they could not provide such papers
the judge told them to provide a paper excuse for the reason why
even many parts of the paper excuse were blacked out
lol
cant source that story at the moment, but i will try and find it, i think it may have been an episode of sightings

god, i just something about that story a couple days ago, and i can't remember where at the moment. i hate when that happens. it's going to drive me crazy now.
it involved a couple of people who got sick, and the government refused to help them, saying it was classified. after going to court, the ruling was that the government would not help these people, but would make sure that it did not happen to future 51 employees.

The FOIA was put in place to try and appease the people. I mean, what government, if any, would give away any secrets and intentionally compromise themselves? None. That is why we there are conspiracies, for that very reason.
