Ok, I was doing my hair in the bathroom, getting ready to go somewhere, when I looked away to grab something. When I turned back, my reflection was no longer in that mirror, and someone else's was in my place. It completely freaked me out. Can someone explain this to me, and why it happened?

looool @ I WAS IN THE BATHROOM FOR GOD'S SAKE!
Now I've never heard of a phenomenon like this outside of vampire stories.
I really don't know what you experienced. but like you said you were in the bathroom, how could you miss *you*?

My bathroom is my office, no one is allowed to look in the mirror with me - unless they have an appointment.

Anyway, the only reason why that would happen is if you were clairvoyant, and the place is haunted- and you didn't expect to "see" anyone- but they were there anyway.

it would quite easily be explained as an optical illusion. probably the slow reaction of your eyes to the jerk of your head intercepted the light and made your face distorted for a few seconds

The mirror in your bathroom. Is this an old house? Old mirror? Perhaps even an antique or is a used mirror in some way, like purchased at a yard sale.
Mirror, Mirror (link)I've had dreams where I don't even know it is one. And I walk into a bathroom, turn and look in the mirror and while I know it's me looking back, she that I see is not me. And then again I've had dreams where she is.
Once, I was flying low over the sea, and I looked over at the shore and a girl was standing on the end of a pier, in a long dress, looking right at me. Behind her at the land end of the dock, was this group of people that I knew were her friends and that she was well loved by all. I knew because I could feel all those emotions one feels in that kind of company, in my own heart area as I glided there looking at her. And I knew also that she was me , and saw me there. But yet, she looked nothing like I do.
Seeing something like you describe in a mirror, while easily dismissed as a flash of light (especially if one suffers what is known as visual snow), could mean a spirit is in the mirror, (per the link) or perhaps someone is dreaming and they happened through. (Like my dream above).
I wish you luck in your search for answers. Remember, no fear makes the journey clear.

I must say I have always been intrigued by the ghost in a mirror concept. usually gives me the biggest startle in pretty much every movie/show I've seen it in. can't say I've seen it personally though, must've been a shocker.

I would have broken the mirror then and there. kinda out of reflex like
"wow, nice hair me!" look away for a minute "hey, scary lady, did you see where me went?" i'd ask, then break the mirror.

Another possibility is that you may have momentarily tapped in psychically to a former owner of the mirror.....if it is an old mirror.

1940's- One of my points exactly, your place might either be haunted, or it's a 'past-life'.

That's the first thing that came to mind when I read this post. That old mirror in the dark chant;
Bloody Mary.

First time I encountered "her", we were in elementary school bathroom. Three squealing girls in the dark and all that glass!

I was the only one that stayed stock still and quiet, as they ran from the room. Mainly because I was nearsighted and couldn't see in the dark! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I found out what kind of ghost I got. A shadow ghost actually. They are: Shadow ghosts, usually found in homes, are rather sneaky and elusive, appearing out of the corner of your eye, or in mirrors.

I live in a very old house and i remember one time i looked in the mirror and i saw myself all cut and my hair was frizzie like i hadn't slepted for weeks and got beat up but i was fine and then as i was staring at myself it dissapeared and i could see no reflection of myself like my soul has just left me and then i started freaking out and told my family and just left my house and stayed at a hotel for a week. One week after i felt as i was reborn my senses was stronger and clearer it felt great. I never really brought it up until today it still gives me the shivvers

Feb 14 2006, 08:49 AM
I don't know about seeing a past life I personally believe that you wouldn't be able to see your past life in a waking state. I do believe that Mirrors are something very powerful indeed. I heard once that if you have two mirrors in a room and the reflections cross that point could become some kind of portal to another plane of existance, whether that be astral plane, spiritual plane or the shadow plane (or another i have yet to experience). Personally i think you saw a spirit, Are you prone to seeing things out of the ordinary or getting that feeling of someone nearby when there doesn't appear to be?
Your house or mirror dont need to be haunted as many many spirits can come in visitation (they aren't connected to any particular place or item)

Feb 18 2006, 12:33 AM
I don't know if anyone said this yet, but you know how a lot of people confuse a spirit and a ghost. And a ghost is actually a memory. I'm thinking it could be a ghost. Because a friend of mine once lived in this apartment and she kept seeing a shadow of a man shooting a woman, she'd seee it everyday at the same time. So we cam to the conclusion that it was a ghost of something that happened there once before. So maybe a girl once stood where you were standing and looking in the mirror at the same time you were but in a different time. Sorry im not really good at explaining but I hope that I helped.
