FREEPORT, Maine -- L.L. Bean, known worldwide for its customer service, is red-faced after publishing the wrong number in its spring fly-fishing catalog.

Callers dialing the published toll-free number are finding themselves connected with an explicit phone sex line.

A company spokesman would not say how many customers dialed the wrong number, but he said Bean’s has received complaints.

While he wouldn’t say whether the company is trying to take over the phone sex line, he did say Bean’s is looking into how it might resolve the mix-up.
