Ok, short version:
My avatar is the Chi Rho, the monogram of Christ's name (Px). The latter portion means rebirth, resurrection. It's also where the name Christ is derived (from Christos).

I saw a magazine with some monk covered from head to toe in writing that looked just like that.

Sanskrit or some Arabic forms of language can look similar to the stylized Greek in Yel's avatar. I suspect the monk you saw may have been Tibetan, and if I'm not mistaken Tibetans use a modified form of sanskrit.

I wonder why. They were...tattoos?
