I was thinking that maybe the World Events and Current Affairs forum could be redefined to perhaps ‘Social Science and current affairs discussion’. This would broaden the scope of discussion to encompass political / economic and social ‘issues’ rather than just individual ‘news stories’ which is where the main focus seems to lie...
Just my 2 cents....

While were on the name changing subject i am suggesting that we shorten down from Cryptozoology myths an legends to just Cryptozoology

1) multiple avatar slots (up to three).
2) Color scheme options, to personalize each members view of UM.
3) More Font choices like Old English.
those are the tree suggestions that I have.

I don't think there's much that could be changed. The sites pretty grand as it is. Maybe bring back the old school pm boxes, when they came in a pop up window. It's sometimes hard to tell when you've got a message.

Get rid of the 'Believers only' section of the Psychic forum. The skeptics still go there anyway

There's no point to it

I'd really like to see more customization added to the blogs.
Something like colour backrounds or even a wallpaper, we might even go a step further by asking Barman and UA to help make wallpapers.
Maybe even sound bites or something to run video directly off the page.
*Maybe the video thing would be a little hard to accomplish but it would still be awesome.

Going on what Replacement, perhape we should keep the believers section, but also but in a sceptics section. This way, believers can talk with other believers without freaking out at sceptics, and sceptics can discuss without having 12 people with less then 50 posts jump in and say " you don't believe, so you're stupid."
Basically, it should reduce some hostillity. But, we should also keep the general metaphysics board, as a place were we can post experiences...not so much for debating, but to tell others about our encounters with various "metaphysical phenomina".

YAY my idea was good after all

( the color change ) however it has come to my atteintion that there should be a new section called ' Review Forum ' where we can review our favorite books/movies/games/etc ( This wasn't my idea i forgot who his/her name was however no one has proposed thid remarkable idea befor me so there ) what do you think

Following up on Replacement100s point, I do not think the Beleivers only section of the Psychic abilaties forum should be removed, but instead there should be more active moderation there. Far too often skeptics ignore the obvious and specific rules and continue to harass beleivers within.
I think the Movies, Music, books and televison section should be split into three differnt sections - One for Music, one for Movies and Televison and one for books. There seems to be a continueing trend in which threads about books are overwhelmed and forced from the page by threads about Music, movies and Televison, which seems to stop those interested in said book seeing the thread and commenting.
I don't think there needs to be more mods, but instead users need to be encouraged to report a thread, reply or blog entry to moderaters should it breach the site rules.

I personally think it's more than enough mods, i'm curious as to why you think it isn't Bigfoot?
At any one time you only need one mod online, it's not a completely trouble-filled website. Considering at most there's usually around 100 members online, it's actually very easy for 14 moderators to do everything needed right away.

I don't think they're doing a bad job. Do you?
Besides, the vast majority of site members are inactive on the forums, therefore comparing the sixteen moderators to 28,000 members is highly unrealistic.

Alright, i haven't entered any ideas yet except agreeing with a few so i'm gonna now.
I'd like to see more profile options. Possibly links to a members uploaded images in the image gallery, or a seperate profile page where a member can upload personal photos? Something along those lines. Also a guestbook would be kinda neat. But mainly just extra fields for profiles, such as 'favourite movie' or other generic personalised profile fun bits.
Pay raise for the mods.

Hrm, a new site banner? Maybe a graphics area specifically for Things like the Avatar Workshop and Signature threads. I've seen a lot of threads get closed for "questionable" topics. It would be nice to see an *Enter at your own caution* thread where things like this can be discussed. And I do not mean like... A flaming thread or link to porn sites but things like the holocaust thread that magically got up and dissapeared could be placed.

I agree. We definetly need a new site banner. The old one was nice but I think we something newer. Maybe even animated. Also I think there should be banners that work as links to this website that we can post on other websites.

What happens if bigfoot gets disproved before 2011? That would be a waste. It needs to be something more general. Plus, do things get reset during an update? I hope not because it took me forever to personalize my user.

I actually like the banner.

You know I don't have any complaints. I think that this site is very user friendly. I went to other forums and they are so annoying to navigate. If this place gets suped up that would be fantastic but I already think it's been very well done.
PS-The "help" section should be in bold. A lot of people don't seem to know it is there for some reason

I love Kratos' suggestion!!!
A psychology section and a true crime section (perhaps we could include unsolved crimes).
That would be great
Disinterested
Feb 9 2006, 12:50 AM
I think that a True Crime section would be great, but if we were to incorporate psychology into it, it might a little tricky if people were to ask about certain psychological problems or illnesses. As far as I know, no one on the board is qualified to give any kind of advice or information on the subject.
Like I said, True Crime would be a fantastic idea but as long as we kept it fairly specific to that category.

A delete button is not a good idea as there's a lot of potential for abuse. Best thing to do if you double post is report it, and a mod will be more than happy to delete the extra post.

and maybe a archive of all posts ever made by anyone so if a member ( say like gandalf2013 ) deletes all of his/her posts we can just do a serch and POOF there is all the posts they ever made
and maybe a DISSAPERANCE forum for people like Michel Rockafeller or Jimmy Hofa

Debate organisers such as myself and Lottie do have the power to close threads in the debates section. We have the power of Moderators but its just contained to the debates section.

I personally am an avid book reader and would love to discuss many novels with the members of UM but I doubt an entire sub-forum for books would be appropriate. There would be topics but not enough to have there own sub-section. Movies & TV could be one section while Books and music maybe could go together. Alone Music and books cant justify having their own sub-sections but together it could work.

I really didn't mean a help section for people with problems as more to news updates, new experiments, studies and break throughs about the minds and how we tick.
True crime does have some amount of messing with the mind a little bit. Seeing what makes the criminals tick, but not a full blown psychology section within it. As there is still evicence, clues and different cases to be discussed.
Just to clarify.

I don't think we need a whole sub-section just on new discoveries on the brain, it's not like they happen each and every day of the week. If there was one on Science Discoveries that would be cool. I would be worried that the true-crime section could get gory

My only suggestion: when someone posts a giant picture I notice that the right hand margin goes really far across, or in the blogs, the edit button disappears. So perhaps a size limit to pics would be handy...
Other than that I *love* UM

I hate that with a passion when people do that.

Really, it's not that hard to save the image, resize it quick then post it on UM. So I'd have to agree with that suggestion.
