Now Wooff, don't you think NASA scans and rescans all of the pictures they plan to release? Even if the rock turned out to be a skull, there is no way in hell that they would miss it. Sorry bud, it's just a rock with shadows appearing in a couple depressions.

Hey Woof,
I'm not going to be too quick in saying this is fake or that it's not a skull.
I think it looks pretty cool and I think it is quiet possible that it may be a skull. I would be selfish to think that we humans are the only life forms out there. And if there are life forms out there, then they have to die somewhere, and why not on Mars?
And in regards to Nasa releasing the photo and scanning it 1000 different ways, well who said that Nasa did formily release this photo, it may have leaked out, someone may have hacked into it. Anything is possible. And just maybe.... Nasa scanned but missed it, they have stuffed up before.... Then again it could just be a rock.
I wouldn't say it is proof- But if I was in charge of Nasa, that photo is enough for me to send back the rover machine and pick that rock/skull up just to really see what it is.

ill admit i have a very open mind and want to believe there to be aliens in our solar system. but take a closer look at it... the symetry of the 'skull' the indentations on the temples of it.. the bulging 'brow' part on the forehead...it just looks very much like id imagine an alien skull to look like.. if anyone can render how authentic that photo is.. if its unaltered or whatnot id like to know.

Ok, that is very ODD. It's more than likley a rock, but then again it makes you think. Is there an expert around to tell us if this would be symetrical[sp?]. If it is then WOW I'd really think twice about calling it a rock, lol.

Interesting, but has anyone noticed that this rock looks like a
face, not a skull? There is a nose, and the mouth below is lips, not teeth. Skulls do not have these features. It is a picture of a rock. A cool rock to be certain, but a rock nonetheless.
Iorning_Board

^ "Skulls do not have these features" human skulls dont, but who knows what evelotionary features the geographical conditions on mars or any alien planet for that matter could induce... I agree though, looks like a rock...

There maybe was life on mars, millions of years ago but perhaps it was just simple life forms, like microbs and stuff.A microbe can't build a face on the surface of the planet.

1. The photo was released by NASA:
http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/ all/2/p/513/2P171912249EFFAAL4P2425R1M1.HTML
2. It appears that there is only one source for this controversy, Harold Carver.
3. Problematic: a) The Rover's perspective;

Sunlight angle and resulting shadow effects; and c) Relation to type of geology in its immediate area.

You can credit me for those.
As for the rock, it isn't symmetrical. See how there is a protrusion on the right side of it, reaching from it's 'nose' to the ground? It doesn't have that on the other side.

There is not a skull on Mars.
Look at the pic I uploaded. Now, look at the three areas, one enclosed in a box, one in a circle, and another in a quadrilateral.
Box- If you look very closely, you can tell with the shading that there are two different rocks next to each other. At the left-hand side, the shading is more apparent and you can see more clearly where the seperationis.
Circle- Once again, two rocks. By the shading and angle of the rock, you can see where the rock's edge dips down from view, not upward as a skull would've been.
Quadrilateral- More than obvious those are many different rocks together.
Another thing- why do you believe that a Martian skull will look so similar to a human one? Do you believe that the only senses there are the ones we have on Earth? Can you imagine any others. Of course not. The imagination can only imagine things of which it has been experienced before or seen. If you imagine a house you have never seen in your life and try to walk around it, your mind doesn't know what is in it, and you find it very difficult to consentrate. Now with reading a book and imagining what's going on, if two people are talking, well it's not too hard to imagine people talking. If a medieval battle is going on, you've seen a sword, right?
My point is the imagination can only think of things of which the mind as experienced before. You cannot think of another extraterrestrial sense because to your mind it does not exist! The sky may be the limit, aye, but it's still a limit of which the mind cannot cross.
