I would like to know about the song The Day the Music Died by Don Mcclain and
what the song really means.

I have read one very detailed interpetation about the song and would like to verify what is fact and what is not. People think that it is a beautiful song but are unaware of the purpose for it being written. I think it is an important song in the music of the 50's and 60's. Thanks for any info. oslo

Actually, the day the music died was last Friday! O_o But I'm not sure this thread belongs here, though. A Mod may move it.

Yes it was. Check out the link I posted above.

Also, did you know that the name of the plane they died in was "American Pie?"

Thus the inspiration for the song.

Untrue, actually:

QUOTE
Basic errors in American Pie interpretations have been carried forward and sometimes get reported as being fact. One of the most tedious theories of recent times is that the plane that crashed killing Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper was called 'American Pie'. This is wholly untrue and Don McLean released a press statement in 1999 to confirm this:

"the growing urban legend that "American Pie" was the name of Buddy Holly’s plane the night it crashed, killing him, Ritchie Valens and the Big Boppper, is untrue. I created the term." - Don McLean, 1999
