user posted image rThe first experimental demonstration of quantum telecloning has been achieved by scientists at the University of Tokyo, the Japan Science and Technology Agency, and the University of York. The work is reported in the latest issue of Physical Review Letters. Telecloning combines cloning (or copying) with teleportation (i.e., disembodied transport). The scientists have succeeded in making the first remote copies of beams of laser light, by combining quantum cloning with quantum teleportation into a single experimental step. Telecloning is more efficient than any combination of teleportation and local cloning because it relies on a new form of quantum entanglement - multipartite entanglement. Professor Sam Braunstein, of the Department of Computer Science at York, said: "Quantum mechanics allows us to do things which we previously thought were impossible.

In 1998, I was involved in an experiment in America which was one of the first for quantum teleportation in which we transmitted a beam of light without it crossing the physical medium in between. "This new experiment is an extension of that work. Whether it will change the world for individuals or is just of use to governments or big companies is hard to say. Any new protocol is like a new-born baby and it has to develop, but we know this one could be used to tap cryptographic channels.

With out getting in to the Math of this , but only a lay persons understanding , Is the laser beam copied in another location or is the beam going in to another reality or dimension? In a previous artical about replicating an atom at a distance it states the information was transferred , but didn't realy explain how or if though a sub-space like medium. The concept of it just happening makes it sound like MAGIC , some thing my brains resists accepting. no.gif

lol do you really think they are going to post EXACTLY how they did it.... of course not! Anything they do publish will be very vague.

Just so they can understand it.

I believe the information to be crossing the space-time medium.

If I were smarter, I bet I would find this very interesting....

I read quite a bit about it before, it's strange. They were also able to "Teleport" a single atom across a room. When it comes to quantum physics / mechanics the scientists know it works, but they do not know exactly how it works. They know if they do steps A) and B ), we will get a result of C), but we don't know how A) and B ) work together to get to the result of C), we just know it works from trial and error. With that in mind it's kind of scary how they seem to be playing with fire. Same thing can be said with many things in the world, no one knows why cancer affects us, or how to cure it, but we know what it does, or, we do not know exactly WHY we need to sleep, they just assume the whole process is to rejuvenate our bodies.

What you were saying Roger about the light travelling through another dimension is in fact correct. The whole idea behind quantum physics is that there is no universe, but a multiverse. They beleive every choice that we have is done opposite in another dimension. For instance if you wanted to cut the grass but didn't, there is another universe generated in which, you did in fact cut the grass. With that in mind, you can obviously see multi-verses are pretty much infinite, and that parallel multi-verses exist side by side. A theory I was looking into myself was trying to say ghosts , dejavue, and other phenomenas are the result of other "multi-verses" colliding with ours. A ghost might incline that the other world touched a bit of ours, but in that world, that dead person is in fact still alive. Or in the sense of dejavue, another universe came into close proximity of ours in which we have already seen or done that specific action, so a future multi-verse. The mathematics and theory gets pretty deep, and obviously the whole thought of quantum physics is theory, but they are finding more and more ways like this one, to prove it's existance.
primordial
Pretty much said about the uncertainty principle( one cannot measure or its impossible to detect at the same time and with high accuracy both the position and the momentum of a particle).
I do have confidence in multi-verses theory, and there could be an perfect "primordials” in some other verses. I just hope that Mankind will use this unique technique to benefit our species. Imagine teleporting an cancer patient leaving the cancer cells behind. thumbsup.gif

So true primordial, but I have one concern. Being a very religious person I am stuck with one dilemma. The teleportation of cells and atoms is done through uttterly destroying the cell, and then recreating it somewhere else. Scientists are not sure yet if the atom is being destroyed, and then re-created, or just moved through another dimension and then coming out of another dimension in a specific place, with the physical properties untouched.

Now comes my concern of religious belief. If you utterly destroy someone, and then just re-create him , what of that persons soul ?. Physical attributes, and memories can all be duplicated, since memories are just chemical reactions in the brain. However, if a persons soul does exist, and you destroy him, and then bring him back to life, what would happen ?. It would be a controversy issue if we ever did get to the point of teleportation of a person, and I wonder who the first person would be to step up to the plate.

A soul cannot be destroyed I think... maybe I am wrong.

As for Deja-Vu... I think that if you looked at each universe as simply a transformation (mathematical terms) of the next, then the points in which Deja-Vu occurs are invariable points on the graph of the universe.

So when can i get my handheld teleporter?

I think the are planing a relies sometime next decade

disgust.gif This story ( or better event) reminds me of a SCI-FI story where the impurities of manufacturing and power generation in one dimension were being transported to another , parallel world leaving thier own a paradise . The other a toxic waste land. Let us hope some thing similar cannot happen here!

Or is it already happening? crying.gif

If the soul is energy, than I would think not.
