Other than the introduction which was too long and
pointless, the first two thirds of this movie was really pretty creepy and effective. The cave setting should scare about anybody and there was the idea a couple of the girls may be going crazy. Thumbs up for psychological terror!
Then the latter part of the film completely collapsed and turned into a really crappy and poorly shot monster fest. I thought it was insulting to the really very decent rest of the movie. Epileptic, jerky camera shots do NOT make something scarier, it just gives the audience a headache.

I agree Jennrose, however i enjoyed it overall just because...well.. it was kinda different.... however I find it hard tounderstand how so many people could die in that one area (all the bones)... and not take any cars or such..... and not be searched for....and... so on....
Anyhow directors go for the jerky movemnts, because they are more effective at getting people scared, as it gives more of a home video feel...... which gets people a little more involved.... Not saying its effective always, but i cant say i noticed it that much in this movie... which I would think made it effective....

I hated the angst ending. I'm not one of these angsty teenagers who won't be happy unless lots of people die. I want a happy ending to movies, even horror movies can have happy endings (Tremors, Alien, Aliens etc)

I would agree with you on some level.... While I dont necessary want to always see movies with happy endings, or else they'd all be a little predictable, I think horror movies especially retain value with a happy ending..... They are trying to shock and scare an audience, but with an ending which is not happy.... then they leave you with a sort of depressed feeling, rather then one of shock or horror. Might as well give them closure with an uplifting thought, rather then a sad or depressing one....

I've been waiting to see this movie for a long time. I can't find the DVD anywhere though. I've heard very good things.

I thought the film was quite good but nothing amazing. It wasn't as scary as I had hoped, I began to get bored with all of the *jumpy* scenes.

I agree with that for the grittier feel in movies (I think of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre), but in The Descent it was more like a music video. It didn't seem realistic or edgey, it just seemed that the director didn't know how to choreogragh the action and settled for jerky jump cuts.
Not to nit-pick.
