I went to change my avatar. I selected a new file... but all I got was this resized version of my old one...

clear your browser's cache and delete your cookies.
that should fix the problem, you will have to log back in

I've had the same problem sometimes. I don't know why, but on occassion, it seems to take a day or two (I had to wait 1 week, this one time), but your browser will show it soon.

On the bright side, everyone else can probably see your new avatar. While I was waiting once, I had comments on my new avatar, while it still showed my old one on my browser.

I don't know, maybe UniversalAbsurdity's suggestion will cut through the matter and fix it straight away......

You are seeing a cached copy of your old avatar.

What UA has suggsted will fix it, although deleting your cookies won't be be necessary. Alternatively right click on your avatar, copy the link and then open that link in a new browser window. Hit refresh on your browser until the new avatar appears. The updated image will then appear correctly.

Well, it just took some sleep. I woke up and tried adding it again, and it worked this time. I'm using firefox, so there is no "refresh". I already thought of that.

There is a refresh in Firefox, the button is labelled "reload current page".

Alternatively, F5 works on both browsers.

here i was deleting my cookies every time i had this happen, and for what?!??
