I sleep with my eyes open. I can keep them closed until I fall alseep and then they open.
I usually wear a night mask for this because the only other option is to tape them shut and that doesn't feel to good.

On ocassional nights that I have slept without anything over them I noticed something.
I would often see an object in my dream and awake to find myself faced towards that object in the room I'm sleeping in.

Would I be able to see something in real time while dreaming and pull that into my dream?
How would that work? Isn't my mind at another level of consciousness during sleep?
That would mean that even though I'm dreaming my mind is still interpreting what my eyes are seeing on a conscious level?

I hear people say they fall alseep to T.V. and radio and than dream of that song or show but I keep my eyes closed until I fall alseep therefore I am seeing these things after I have fallen alseep. I don't know I'm just thinking aloud.
Any thoughts or input?

If you tell yourself before you go to sleep to remember the dream when you wake up, It usualy happens grin2.gif

Yeah i think it's true about falling asleep to T.V and music, reason why a lot of people do it. I also dream a lot about things i think about just before fading away into loss conciousness.

I assume you could be Lucid Dreaming (dreaming while your somewhat awake) You tend to have control over your dreams in this state, like where you know whats going on but you decide you want something to happen in your dream, and it does... Or something like that.

I just wake up in the middle of my dream...and i'm still dreaming, which is pretty cool. But sleeping with my eyes open...no.

Conscious dreams is lucid dreaming I think - being able to control your dreams. But sleeping with eyes open? Weird!

Ya know what really sucks in dreaming? When you're trying to wake up out of your dream, but your brain won't let you, so you're in that awkward stage where you can't really move in or out of your dream tongue.gif It feels so weird!

Sounds like Hypnogogic dreaming to me. Try searching it on google. thumbsup.gif

QUOTE(the wiki article)
However, when experiencing hypnagogia or hypnopompia, the individual is still conscious of their surroundings, effectively dreaming while still awake.

I really enjoy the hypnagogic state, I can get into it at will and no I don't have narcolepsy or temporal lobe epilepsy grin2.gif although I USED TO BE an insomniac - not any more, I can will my self to sleep wink2.gif

This certainly makes sense to me...
QUOTE(the same article)
Many artists, musicians, architects, engineers, and others demanding creativity to be successful have benefited from the hypnagogia state, where the mind can be totally free and open to creative and new ideas.

I've never slept with my eyes open or dreamt with my eyes open although during the countless sleep paralysis episodes (sometimes every second day) it SEEMS like my eyes are open, I'm actually looking at the room through my closed eyelids whilst in the hypnagogic state. I know this because when I finally break out of the paralysis I knowingly open my eyes!

Cheers

I've had that before and yeah that does suck. I'll realize many times in the dream that I'm dreaming as well and can even control it but other times I'm trying to wake up and can't.
That really stinks. w00t.gif

I actually have had people have full conversations with me when I was sleeping because they thought I was awake because of my eyes.... grin2.gif
Yeah its a physical thing. I had a few surgeries on them when I was a kid so now I have to deal with sleeping with them open. However its alot better than having to hold my eyes open as I did when I was a kid so I'm greatful for that.

I've had instances where I've told myself I had to get up at a vertain time and I would actually wake up like a minute or two before the alrm went off. Thats pretty cool its like programming your mind.

I used to fall asleep to the T.V. but one night I fell alseep while watching a scary movie and I'll tell you what.....I'm never doing that again devil.gif
I woke up wiping my brow and ever since than I sleep without the T.V. w00t.gif

I know I've lucid dreamt before and still do. I'll wake up in the dream and know I'm dreaming. Sometimes I can make the dream do whatever I want and that is wild but I can't do it all the time. It seems when I'm stressed out I lost the ability to lucid dream like that. Its sort of like my mind pilots for me instead.

Thanks everyone and thank you Guardian for the link. Thats crazy that you can see the room with your eyes closed.
I think of sleep walking as well. I used to do that all the time. I would actually get up and get a drink and talk to someone for a minute but I'm alseep. Its like the same thing. its just freaky how you can be in this state somewhere in the middle of no where.

Sometimes I'll make a strong mental suggestion before I fall asleep and it will be in my dream...thats pretty cool. The mind is such a deep and fasinating thing, I wonder if we will ever truly understand its capabilities. Well this insomniac has to hit the hay... sleepy.gif
Thanks everyone for your input. original.gif
