Hi all,

I was walking up through the mountains of snowdonia, many miles later i came to a really spectacular lake, i sat on the hillside and rested for a few hours.

The sun came out as the clouds were passing, the water was very calm. There were two rainbows in the sky one just behind the other and slightly to the left, i noticed that the rainbow reflected in the water, but only one rainbow reflected in the water, so why didnt the other one do so. i walked closer to the lake and then along side the lake, and all the time only one reflected.

has anyone else ever seen that, or know what it is that causes that effect.

your thoughts are most welcome...

The second one may have been a dimmer projection of the first and perhaps it was too dim to reflect or at just enough of an angle from the first not to.
Seeing one rainbow is fun, two must have been awesome!

The most ive ever seen at anyone time is 5, that was awesome. but i was never near any lake to see a relection. I only wish now, that when i saw rainbows i had my camera, forever in my memory.

ive seen rainbows that are so sharp that they appear to look rather false in the sky, it almost looked computer generated. others faint, and the variations in between.

i guess its the line of sight and the angle at which you see the rainbow that determines the clarity.

ive got a camera i take with me everywhere now, next time i see one im snapping...
